Apex Legends hits 1 million players in under 8 hours, beats Fortnite

Titanfall

Yesterday saw the not really a surprise at all launch of Apex Legends, a new free-to-play Battle Royale from the makers of Titanfall, Respawn.

Respawn Lead Producer Drew McCoy confirmed this little factoid in a new interview with Eurogamer regarding the studio's latest game, Apex Legends. Whether this is Titanfall 3, or another project remains to be seen. It turns out the publisher was eager to capitalise on the battle royale market, but had to be convinced on Respawn's unique take on the sub-genre. Instead, you'll choose from a group of Legends (the heroes of this title), each with their own specific skills and weapons. Respawn has also stated that first season for Apex Legends will begin in March. As expected, this is a free to play, battle royale spin-off set in the Titanfall universe. "We're building a game that is not only going to deliver a fun and memorable experience at launch, but something we can keep growing for a long time to come". Those items will include both "exclusive seasonal cosmetics" as well as the loot box-style Apex Packs - but no Legends. Respawn has officially stated though that Titanfall 3 is now not in development and all their resources are working on Apex. But, don't expect it to be a Titanfall 3 as there aren't any giant mechs this time. Currently, eight of these characters are available out of which two are locked and can be purchased with in-game currency. That said, a new comment from Respawn co-founder Vince Zampella seems to indicate that this might not necessarily be the case. "Help us get there.'They had no hand in development or anything about this game".

Justice Department to probe federal jail
The prison was put on lockdown and the 1,600 inmates there were denied access to both family and attorneys. Witnesses also said guards pushed them back and sprayed them with an unknown stinging substance.

Being a squad-based battle royale, the last team standing wins the match.

PC players were likely more frustrated by a rather nasty bug which left them permanently stuck "loading" on the main menu, although this issue has apparently now been cured.
