Tennis greats Roger Federer and Serena Williams will meet on court for the first time at the Hopman Cup on Tuesday when Switzerland face the U.S. in Perth.

Leading into his clash with Federer, Norrie described it as a boyhood dream to face the 20-time grand slam victor.

Williams then found her range and dominated the tie break to wrap up the first set in 63 minutes.

The Hopman Cup comprises two singles and a mixed doubles match between nations in a round-robin format with two groups of four.

Federer said he had plenty of experience playing against women, going back to his days as a teenage tour hopeful in Switzerland.

"I had to fight even harder, one of us had to fight a bit more". Another 4-2, 4-3 victory in the dead rubber mixed doubles enabled the Germans to beat the Spaniards 3-0 in their opening tie at the tournament.

"It was a great match for me".

"This time it's against Serena, who is one of the biggest champions ever in our sport - men and women combined".
