Alaska is shaken by hundreds of earthquakes each year, and many are hardly noticed.

David Harper was in a coffee shop when the quake began and said the sound intensified and sounded "like the building was just going to fall apart". It and the tsunami it triggered claimed about 130 lives. Harper said the quake was "significant enough that the people who were outside were actively hugging each other".
