Trump derides lawyer Michael Cohen as 'weak person' after bombshell guilty plea

Does Manafort have any credibility left? | LRC Presents: All the President's Lawyers

Cohen admitted he lied to Congress about the extent of Trump's involvement with the project in an attempt to hinder the Trump-Russia investigation and to protect Trump.

Donald Trump's longtime lawyer and fixer has pleaded guilty to lying to congressional investigations into possible connections between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation, and admitted that he had been involved in talks to build a Trump Tower in Moscow months into the 2016 United States presidential campaign.

He also criticized Cohen, saying he was "a weak person and what he's trying to do is get a reduced sentence".

Cohen's new guilty plea is the latest development in a wide-ranging investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller into Russian interference in the 2016 election.

It just so happens that one of those family members, Trump's son Donald Trump Jr. has testified privately in front of a number of congressional committees and one of those committees has since released a transcript of that testimony.

Among other lies, Cohen said he told Congress that all discussions about building a Trump Tower in Moscow had ended by January 2016, when they had actually continued until June of that year.

The only groups where a plurality said Trump tells the truth regarding the Russian Federation investigation were those who approve of the job he's doing as President (77% of whom said that what he says about the investigation is true, compared with 14% who said it is false), Republicans (75% true, 19% false), conservatives (63% true, 31% false) and white non-college graduates (49% true, 46% false).

The Mueller investigation has cast a cloud over the current American administration. "That was my business", he said, and then added that the only reason Cohen pleaded guilty Thursday was to avoid getting a long prison sentence. It is the second time the lawyer's legal woes have entangled Trump, coming months after Cohen said the president directed him during his campaign to make hush money payments to two women who said they had sex with Trump.

"This was a deal that didn't happen", Trump said of the purported real estate project.

But during the campaign, Trump was repeatedly dismissive of claims that he had connections to the Kremlin, an issue that flared as especially sensitive in the summer of 2016 after the Democratic National Committee and a cybersecurity company asserted that Moscow was behind a punishing cyberattack on the party's network.

A spokesperson for the school said a man in a red shirt punched former LSU offensive coordinator Steve Kragthorpe in the chest. Photos and video surfaced online of a post-game skirmish between apparent members of the Tigers and the Aggies.

Cohen also mulled traveling to Russia in connection with the project and in May 2016 was offered a possible introduction to either the Russian president or prime minister on the sidelines of a Russian forum in June 2016. Mr Trump said on Twitter, referring to a U.S. senator who led an anti-communist crusade in the 1950s.

Michael Cohen, President Donald Trump's former attorney, has reached a plea agreement with special counsel Robert Mueller.

Reacting to the plea, House Speaker Paul Ryan said Cohen "should be prosecuted to the extent of the law. I said I would confirm and revert".

"In truth and in fact, and as Cohen well knew, Cohen's representations about the Moscow Project he made to [Congress] were false and misleading", prosecutors said in the nine-page document.

Michael Cohen walks out of a federal court in NY after pleading guilty to lying to Congress over an aborted project to build a Trump Tower in Russian Federation.

On Tuesday, November 27-only one day after news broke that Manafort's plea deal with Mueller had ended-the New York Times reported that Manafort had been using his attorney, Kevin Downing, to funnel information on Mueller's probe to Trump's lawyers.

In early May, prosecutors say, Cohen and Felix Sater, an executive who had worked on and off for the Trump Organization, discussed having Trump visit Russian Federation after the Republican National Convention.

"You know this flipping stuff is bad", Trump, who has repeatedly called for Mueller's "witch hunt" led by "angry Democrats" to come to an end, told the Post. "Sentencing is set for December 12", said Guy Petrillo, another of Cohen's lawyers.

"Moscow is going to be huge", Trump told Playboy magazine in a 1997 interview. He previously worked in the Canberra press gallery and recently finished a Masters of Journalism at Columbia University in NY.
