Turkey, France spar over Khashoggi killing

Jamal Khashoggi

After Saudi Arabia admitted that Khashoggi was killed in its Istanbul consulate, five high-ranking officials were dismissed, including bin Salman's media chief and the deputy head of the Saudi intelligence service.

He called on Saudi Arabia to rid itself of the "stain" by co-operating with Turkey over the investigation.

"Canada has been fully briefed up on what Turkey had to share", Trudeau said at a press conference in Paris, where he is attending a peace forum hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron.

On Tuesday, the Turkish pro-government newspaper Sabah published photos of what it said were x-rays of the Saudi team's luggage when they left the country via Istanbul's Atatürk airport, showing syringes, electric shock devices, large scissors, staple guns, walkie-talkies and a signal jammer. "It is clearly unacceptable that the full circumstances behind his murder still remain unclear", Hunt said in a statement ahead of landing in Riyadh.

Trudeau said he brought the subject up during a recent phone call with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and briefly again when the two met on the weekend in Paris.

It quoted three people familiar with a recording of Khashoggi's murder collected by Turkish intelligence, which "is seen by intelligence officials as some of the strongest evidence" linking bin Salman to Khashoggi's killing.

"Canada's intelligence agencies have been working very closely on this issue with Turkish intelligence", Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said.

Controversial scenes of 'Sarkar' cut, AIADMK relents
The counsel also informed the judge that the objectionable portions had already been removed from the film. However, Sun Picture is yet to make an official statement regarding the same.

Erdogan said: "The recordings, which Ankara has shared with several countries, are "a disaster" and "shocked" a Saudi intelligence official, who heard them".

The Royal house in Riyadh confirmed the killing of the 59-year-old journalist who had written after his escape to the United States of America for the Washington Post, after weeks of denials, but denies that the command was given by crown Prince Bin Salman.

However, it denied the ruling royal family's involvement in the killing.

According to the newspaper, just a few hours before leaving for Paris, Erdogan acknowledged the existence of a rumored audio tape allegedly documenting Khashoggi's tortures and death in the Saudi consulate in the Turkish capital of Istanbul.

The Turkish president told reporters on his plane back from France that he discussed the Khashoggi case with French, German and U.S. leaders over dinner. Le Drian added that Erdogan risked turning the case into a "political game".

He was referring to an alleged 15-member assassination squad that Turkey believes was sent to kill Khashoggi at the consulate where he had arrived to obtain papers to marry his Turkish fiancee. We gave them to Saudi Arabia, to the United States, Germans, French and British, all of them. They have listened to all the conversations in them. Media reports have suggested that his body could have been chemically dissolved.
