Garcia leads by two as Irish challenge fades in South Africa

McIlroy is aiming to win the Race to Dubai for the fourth time

Sergio Garcia carded eight birdies in a flawless opening round in South Africa.

Sun City: Sergio Garcia bogeyed the par-four 18th and Louis Oosthuizen birdied the hole, providing a vital lifeline for the South African on Saturday after the third round of the Nedbank Challenge in Sun City.

Fresh from his third successive win in the Andalucía Valderrama Masters three weeks ago, Garcia (38) combined impressive tee-to-green play with a clinical putting display. The 45-year-old Englishman hadn't won anywhere for more than three years.

"I don't think it's any advantage", he said. "You're never sure whether you're going to be able to do it again".

"Yeah, it's what I'm feel comfortable with".

Garcia began with successive birdies, and picked up further shots on the par-four sixth, the par-five ninth and par-five 14th, but missed a short putt for par on the fifth, three-putted the 13th for a bogey and then dropped another shot on the 18th hole as his second putt horseshoed back at him.

It's not ideal to see three-putts, but some of the pins were nearly impossible to get to and when you leave yourself 20 or 25 feet putting over hills then it is going to happen sometimes. His birdies on Nos.

Saturday Is The Deadline For Unofficial Election Results
He said that local election supervisor Brenda Snipes, a Democrat, has a "horrible history" and is "finding votes out of nowhere". Trump, meanwhile, continued his agitated tweeting about the race. "What's going on in Florida is a disgrace", Trump added .

"I need to tidy up my game off the tee". "I've got a bit of a process that I'm going through with my golf swing and I'm starting to see better shots". I probably wasn't swinging unbelievably, but I kept it under control.

It was a tight three-way battle with Garcia, Oosthuizen and Westwood tied for the lead at 12-under as the final three-ball finished the 12th hole. But Westwood's finish proved irresistible.

Sharma, who is playing his seventh week on the trot, opened with three bogeys in first holes and ended in a similar manner for 71 at the penultimate event of the European Tour.

A 74 from defending champion Branden Grace saw him fall out of contention at one under, while four-time major champion Rory McIlroy - aiming for a late push in the Race to Dubai standings - saw his uninspiring week continue with a one-over par 73, which leaves him at even par.

"I have to play really well this week to give myself a chance, even half a chance going into next week, and that's what I'm going to try and do", said McIlroy, who is eighth in the Race to Dubai, nearly two million points behind Molinari.

McIlroy needed to finish in the top two to stay in contention for the season title while Li and Bjerregaard both needed to win in Sun City.
