Dozens of Yemeni rebels killed in Red Sea port city

Saudi-Led Coalition Says It Attacked Airbase, Missile Sites in Sanaa Airport

"Despite the appeals, fighting continued on Friday, with the Saudi-led coalition saying it had attacked Sanaa International Airport and an adjoining air base being used by Houthi insurgents".

The port is controlled by Yemen's Iran-backed Huthi rebels and under blockade by Saudi Arabia and its allies in a government coalition. Since then, a Saudi-led coalition supporting the government has blockaded the rebel-held north and waged a devastating air campaign.

Earlier in the day, Guterres had called for a halt to violence in Yemen to pull the country back from a "precipice" and build momentum toward talks on ending the war.

The port city of Hodeida, which is in the hands of Houthis rebels, is since Thursday, heavy fighting theater and the target of air strikes by pro-government forces supported by the coalition led by Saudi Arabia.

The United States and Britain have called for an end to the conflict, raising pressure on Saudi Arabia as it faces a global outcry over the murder of prominent Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2.

Iran says USA not able to prevent its oil exports
On Thursday, oil prices rose as investors were encouraged by a strong rebound in the USA stock markets. Previously private oil companies could buy oil only to export oil, officials said.

The official spokesman of the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen, Colonel Turki Al-Malki, stated that the coalition forces conducted a targeted operation of legitimate military targets in Al Dailami airbase. Peace talks in Kuwait also failed in 2016.

The United Nations Children's Fund regional director said over the weekend that Yemeni authorities - both from the pro-government and rebel side - are making it "impossible" to deliver and distribute much-needed humanitarian aid to the country. He is preparing to visit Taiz, Yemen's third largest city and a flashpoint since the Houthis drove the government out of Sanaa in 2014, according to sources close to the United Nations talks.

More than seven million children face a severe risk of starvation, according to the same source. The killing prompted critics to urge an end to American arms sales to the kingdom and a reappraisal of USA military support for the Saudi-led Arab coalition that has been bombing Iranian-supported Houthi rebels, sometimes at the expense of killing civilians.

On Friday, it conducted airstrikes on Sana, the Houthi-occupied capital.

Some rights groups estimate the toll could be five times higher.
