Israeli forces launch 87 overnight air strikes against Gaza Strip

Israel Reopens Border Crossings With Gaza Strip After Tensions De Escalate- Authorities

The declaration by Islamic Jihad to end the rocket fire came as the Israel Defense Forces said fighter jets struck eight targets tied to the Iran-backed terror group in three separate military facilities after Israel was hit by salvos of rockets from Gaza overnight and on Saturday morning.

Meanwhile, a young Palestinian man has died less than a day after being shot by Israeli military forces during clashes between a group of Palestinian protesters and Israeli forces near the border between the Gaza Strip and the occupied territories.

The barrage of rockets, which began late Friday and continued into Saturday, triggered extensive retaliatory strikes by Israeli aircraft against Gaza that risked escalating into a wider conflict.

"After contacts between the Islamic Jihad leadership and the brothers in Egypt it was agreed that a comprehensive ceasefire will begin immediately", spokesman Daoud Shehab said.

"Orders and incentives were given from Damascus with a clear involvement of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards al-Quds force", Conricus told reporters.

The flare in violence, which caused no serious casualties, followed another deadly confrontation Friday during Palestinian protests along the Gaza-Israel border.

In a rare move, the Israeli military threatened to carry out airstrikes in Syria against Syrian and Iranian targets in response.

Hebrew-language news outlets reported that the Israeli army announced that Israeli warplanes have carried out over 80 airstrikes across Gaza.

There was no immediate comment from Hamas.

On June 13, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution, sponsored by Turkey and Algeria, condemning Israel for Palestinian civilian deaths in the Gaza Strip.

The bombing destroyed a site near the Indonesian hospital in the northern Gaza Strip, damaging the medical centre, the Ministry of Health said.

While Greenblatt is expected to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, it remains unlikely that there will be a sit-down with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, who has maintained an administration-wide boycott of the Trump team since the president recognized that Israel's capital is Jerusalem and subsequently moved the US' embassy there.

Sirens were heard in Israeli settlements near the Gaza-Israel buffer zone because of the rockets fired from Gaza.

The Israeli military said dozens of protesters hurled rocks and explosives at troops who responded with "riot dispersal means" and who fired live rounds in cases when there was a direct threat to life.

About two million Palestinians are packed into the Gaza Strip, which is in a deep economic crisis.

Israel says it keeps a naval blockade and tight control of its land crossings with the enclave for security reasons.

Israel has struck Syria dozens of times in recent years, saying it is preventing Iran from supplying advanced weapons to enemies of the Jewish state.
