Winning Numbers in 1.6 Billion Dollar Mega Millions Jackpot Announced

Mega Millions could balloon to $2B if nobody wins next drawing

So why are lottery jackpots growing so mind-bogglingly enormous now?

The winning numbers for the record-breaking Mega Millions lottery have just been announced.

Khaled kept pointing to the sign that read the $1.6 billion prize saying "I'm gonna get me mine!" while a long line of people behind him swelled as the cashiers were spending all of their time printing up Khaled's tons of tickets.

But the chances are rising that a victor or winners will emerge after the numbers are called.

Are you the lucky recipient of a (gulp) $1.6 billion ... yes, billion with a "B" ... winning Mega Millions ticket?

The fever has struck nationwide.

DJ Khaled is worth millions but that still isn't enough for him.

Back on the east coast on Friday, about 9,100 tickets were purchased a minute in Maryland in a two hour window ahead of the drawing, state lottery officials said. "We're selling a lot of a lot of tickets", said Casimer Vermac with Cold Case Beverage. Drawings take place at 10 p.m. on Tuesdays and Fridays.

"I'm gone. I'm retired, and I'm gone", said Bob Landon, explaining his plans if he were to win. (Cheer up, though, it was 25% previous year!) Assuming the Mega Millions jackpot doesn't go up and you take the $904 million lump sum payment, that works out to just about $217 million automatically deducted.

But that's before taxes.

"You're thinking about a best case scenario of winning, but you're taking precautions about a worst case of fighting over the winnings", Neubauer said.

Abrams, Kemp set to meet in Georgia governor's debate
Prior to her career as a novelist , Abrams was a student at Spelman College in Atlanta. Abrams , 44, would become the first black female governor in the nation.

"Yeah, if you're ever going to piss away $2, it might as well be after $1.6 billion", he says chuckling. That would also result in the lump sum amount of $1.142 billion, which is nothing to sneeze at. Some big states, including California, don't withhold taxes from lottery winnings, and some like Texas don't have individual income taxes at all. The first is through 30 annual payments.

It's not just you.

Powerball was the first to try the theory in October 2015, when it changed the potential number combinations.

If one person wins the entire jackpot, after taxes are withheld, the victor could still afford to send more than 1,500 students to Harvard University.

The numbers for this week's historic Mega Millions Jackpot were called late Tuesday night.

But what are your chances of winning? By the time of the actual Mega Millions drawing tonight at 11 p.m., the jackpot could be even higher.

Here in CNY, many people are saying they'll be on the charitable side if they win.

"I couldn't believe it", Jordan told lottery officials.

Others are already self-read experts on how to deal with such an enormous and public prize. "I'll take care of everybody", said one man in line.

Hank Kattan is 75 years old.

"I'll never win, but you gotta give it a shot", he told Reuters.
