At $1.6 Billion, Mega Millions Hits Lottery Record

Feeling lucky? It's not too late to get your Mega Millions ticket as jackpot hits whopping $1 billion

About 280 million tickets sold in Friday's drawing, none matching the winning mix of 7, 15, 23, 53, 65 and 70 to claim an estimated prize of $1 billion.

Mega Millions players in ME plunked down $1.3 million Friday in the hopes of winning the $1 billion jackpot.

The theory was that bigger jackpots would draw more attention, leading more players to plop down $2 for a Mega Millions or Powerball ticket.

The $1 billion prize refers to the annuity option.

Lottery fever gripped people Friday as the $1 billion drawing drew near.

The next drawing is at 9 p.m. Mountain time Tuesday.

ISIS has taken 700 hostages which include U.S. and European citizens
The issue, however, can be discussed among Iran, Syria, and the US , with Russian Federation joining the dialog, he added. Commander Sean Robertson, a Pentagon spokesman, said they have not received any proof of the large number of hostages.

Material from the Associated Press was used in this report.

Tickets cost $2 unless you opt for the "Megaplier", which raises the price to $3.

Lucas told lottery officials he hopes he wins again, according to the news release.

The previous record Mega Millions jackpot was $656 million, which was shared by winners in Kansas, Illinois and here in Maryland on March 30th, 2012. In doing so, Powerball changed the odds of winning the jackpot from one in 175 million to one in 292.2 million. The pot's been growing since July when someone in California won the jackpot. There were NO Mega Millions winners in the state of California.

The estimated cash option for next drawing will be $905 million. The biggest single payout came in August 2017, when a MA woman claimed a single lump sum worth $480.5 million.

A single winning ticket would be eligible for a cash payout of $268.6 million. McIntyre welcomes the attention, but the jackpot soaring to $1 billion has proven problematic in one sense: at least two billboards that advertise the jackpot ran out of digits. Because proceeds from the state lottery go toward education, those increased sales mean more revenue for Oklahoma schools, Finks said.
