Pakistan 45-3 at close against Australia

Aaron Finch will make his Test debut against Pakistan on Sunday

Debutant Bilal Asif ran through Australia's batting line-up to put Pakistan in a commanding position on the third day of the first Test in Dubai on Tuesday.

Pakistan are now 110-5 with a lead of 390.

No Test side has ever successfully chased a fourth-innings target greater than 418 anywhere in the world.

Imam-ul-Haq was unbeaten on 23 while Azhar Ali was dismissed for four in the last over of the day, after Australia were bowled out for 202 in their first innings, conceding a lead of 280 runs.

Peter Siddle, pick of the Australian bowlers with 3-58, got the lone success in the first session when he had nightwatchman Mohammad Abbas clean bowled.

Sohail was given not out but the decision was overturned on review.

Off-spinner Bilal Asif took 6-36 and pacer Mohammad Abbas finished with 4-29.

Asad Shafiq missed out on a century but scored a fluent 80, adding 150 runs for the fifth-wicket stand with Sohail as Australia's bowlers toiled for almost two days under hot and humid conditions on a flat wicket.

They handed baggy greens to Aaron Finch, Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne.

Shaun Marsh of Australia walks from the pitch after being dismissed by Bilal Asif of Pakistan during day three of the first test.

But once Finch drove casually and was caught at short mid-on after lunch, the top order crumbled against Asif's spin.

Leg-spinner Yasir was unlucky not to be amongst wickets, having dropped Mitchell Marsh off his own bowling for two and wicketkeeper Sarfraz Ahmed missing a stump in the first session with Khawaja on 17.

Limited-overs specialist Finch displayed patience after resuming the day on 13 and brought up his half-century with a sweep to the deep midwicket boundary.

The Test series will be followed by a three-match T20I series (Abu Dhabi, October 24, and Dubai, October 26 and October 28).
