Nonetheless, there was considerable hype in the lead up to the two-Test series, thanks to the Indian selectors call to include teenage sensation Prithvi Shaw in the 15-member squad.

On Wednesday, the Indian team management announced Shaw would make his Test debut against West Indies in Rajkot.

Skipper Virat Kohli, who was all smiles when young Shaw raised his bat after reaching the milestone, was at the crease on 4 with vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane (batting 0) with Shaw offering an easy return catch to leggie Devendra Bishoo trying to play against the turn.

Gabriel was clocking in the higher 140kph but that did not faze Shaw. The youngster was aggressive right from the word go and made sure he latched on to the bad deliveries, which often came his way.

Kohli, who started on his overnight score of 72, got to his hundred in his 123rd innings with a boundary off Bishoo. Check them out below.

At least 384 dead after magnitude-7.5 Indonesia quake
But Danny Hilman Natawidjaja, a geologist with the Indonesian Institute of Sciences, said the Sulawesi event is more complicated. On Aug. 5, a powerful quake on the Indonesian island of Lombok killed 505 people, most of whom died in collapsing buildings.

Shaw became the second youngest Indian to score a Test century and fourth youngest Test centurion on debut. In 14 first-class matches before his Test debut, Shaw had scored seven hundreds and five half-centuries.

Shaw also became the second youngest Indian after Sachin Tendulkar to score a Test century. Only Vijay Mehra is ahead of him, who achieved the same when he was 17 years and 265 days.

Shaw, at 18 years and 329 days, reached the historic three-figure mark off just 99 balls at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium.

It meant a Test debut for the inexperienced 22-year-old Sherman Lewis and also saw Keemo Paul, at age 20 and with a single Test to his name, having to share the new ball with speedster Shannon Gabriel.

He also becomes the third fastest to a century on Test debut.
