Anger of British Airways customers after 380000 payments hit in data breach

British Airways breach sees hackers take-off with customers' payment details

BA says the breach relates to bookings made between 10.58pm on August 21 and 9.45pm on September 5.

BA customer Daniel Willis, 34, who booked a flight on Monday with the airline, said he had not been contacted by the airline despite being affected by the data breach.

Another BA customer, Stephanie Jowers, said she contacted the airline hours before the hack was announced to query a suspicious charge on her account but was not informed it could have been compromised.

The data watchdog has said it would be making inquiries into the incident.

Hackers obtained the credit card details of some 380,000 British Airways travellers during a two-week data breach this summer that leaves the customers vulnerable to financial fraud, the airline says.

The company said it is communicating with affected customers and advised anyone who believed they may have been affected to contact their banks or credit card providers.

But U.K. information regulators could end up fining British Airways over the breach.

"We take the protection of your personal information very seriously".

Mr. Cruz said anyone who lost out financially would be compensated by the airline.

In a statement, the airline added: "We have notified the police and relevant authorities. We discovered that something had happened, and immediately we began to work", he said. It is now vital that the company moves quickly to ensure those affected get clear information about what has happened and what steps they should take to protect themselves.

Consumer advice website MoneySavingExpert says customers should monitor bank and credit card statements closely for signs of possible fraudulent activity.

It said customers due to travel could check in online as normal as the incident had been resolved.

Some 75,000 passengers were left stranded after a glitch forced the airline to cancel almost 726 flights over three days.
