Legionnaires: A Disease Caused By Contaminated Water Droplets Found In Hampton

'Cluster' of cases of Legionnaires' disease confirmed in Surrey

Legionnaires' disease is caused when people breathe in small droplets of water containing the bacterium known as Legionella, often found in freshwater, groundwater and soil, as well as cooling towers, hot tubs, and larger plumbing systems.

"It's just a coincidence", said Leon, adding that New Hampshire sees an average of 30 to 35 cases of Legionnaires' disease annually. "The Department of Health will evaluate the building's plumbing to look for evidence of legionella bacteria in the building's water system".

In a release, Fraser Health said it is investigating the source of the bacteria.

According to the New Hampshire HHS, one person has died and 14 have become sick in the outbreak.

These 12 people likely acquired their infections between early June and mid-August in Hampton, NH.

California lawmakers pass net neutrality bill
The Republican-led Federal Communications Commission voted to overturn Obama-era net neutrality protections earlier this year. California would become the fourth state to pass its own net neutrality protections, but the largest and most consequential.

The Centers for Disease Control is assisting state health officials in confirming the source of the outbreak. Test results are still pending for environmental samples taken from other locations in the affected area. High risk population includes people over 50 years of age, former and current smokers, people with chronic lung diseases, weak immune systems, as well as other underlying illnesses.

"Federal, state and local authorities are working cooperatively and diligently to address this situation and help mitigate any additional health risks", Gov. Chris Sununu said Thursday.

Bagley said this particular bacterial infection can not be passed from person-to-person.

A cautionary warning has been issued to the people most at risk of contracting the disease to stay away from this area. It can not be contracted by drinking or coming into physical contact with water containing the bacteria (such as while swimming). It can not be contracted by drinking or coming into physical contact with water containing the bacteria, such as during swimming, for example.

"When a report comes in, we have a protocol that we follow which includes interviewing with the person that is ill or was sick and ask them a series of questions to determine where the exposure could have happened", Martin said.
