'Truth isn't truth': Giuliani perfectly sums up 2018

Rudy Giuliani on Russia probe:

"Not the truth", Giuliani told NBC's Chuck Todd on Sunday morning during "Meet the Press".

Giuliani, who is Trump's personal lawyer in the Russian Federation probe, said the president could get caught in a perjury trap if agrees to an interview with special counsel Robert MuellerRobert Swan MuellerSasse: US should applaud choice of Mueller to lead Russian Federation probe MORE, saying "truth isn't truth".

I think it's fair to say, as Stephen Hayes does, that it's unlikely that Mueller would try to indict the sitting president of the United States for "lying" to federal officials just because his account of a conversation didn't match up with James Comey's. The comments were widely mocked on social media. "Mr. Mayor, do you realize, what ..." "You just said 'truth isn't truth.' That's not acceptable from a president's lawyer".

"He fired Comey because Comey would not, among other things, say that he wasn't a target of the investigation", Giuliani told Fox News' Sean Hannity.

The younger Trump replied: "If it's what you say I love it" - and several days later, the meeting took place.

Trumps critics were prompt to seize on the exchange.

In this May 5, 2018, photo, Rudolph W. Giuliani, an attorney for President Trump, applauds at the Iran Freedom Convention for Human Rights and Democracy at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Washington. They won't believe the truth even if they hear it.

Russian Federation also denies claims it interfered in the polls two years ago, which saw Donald Trump defeat Democratic rival Hillary Clinton.

Another problem with giving Rudy the benefit of the doubt on "truth isn't truth" is that he might turn around at any moment and lie his balls off, suggesting that maybe he means it literally - that there's no such thing as objective truth. Why does the White House keep letting him go on TV?

Conservative commentator Tara Setmayer on Monday said that the Trump administration is "gaslighting" the American public and the administration may not be able to continue the tactic much longer. Remember? The Times story that reported that was sort of a big deal for many weeks last summer.

"Truth is truth", Todd said in response.
