Trump ‘monitoring’ the stolen plane situation

A Twitter user took video of the plane before it crashed

Witnesses filmed the 76-seater plane performing loops and being chased by two F-15 military jets near Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in Washington state before it crashed in dense woodland on Ketron Island. There were no passengers aboard.

The man told authorities on the ground he "would like to apologize" to people who cared about him.

The F-15 jets chased after the plane, but weren't involved in the crash, the sheriff's office said.

The stolen plane was a twin engine turboprop Q400 airplane belonging to its sister carrier Horizon Air, Alaska Airlines said on Twitter.

Pierce County Sheriff Paul Pastor described the incident at a press conference as a "joyride gone terribly wrong".

The man could reportedly be heard on audio recordings telling air traffic controllers that he is "just a broken guy".

"This is not a terrorist incident", a sheriff's office representative said.

Horizon Air is part of Alaska Air Group and flies shorter routes throughout the US West.

The aircraft was stolen about 8 p.m. Alaska Airlines said it was in a "maintenance position" and not scheduled for a passenger flight.

Success in these missions means that the Boeing and SpaceX spacecraft could start regular servicing missions to the ISS. The astronauts assigned to the Starliner's first mission are Sunita Williams, who retired as a Navy captain, and Cmdr.

The man was believed to be employed as a ground service agent for Horizon.

Washington Gov. Jay Inslee (D) thanked the Air National Guard from Washington and OR for scrambling the jets, which "were ready to do whatever was needed to protect us", he said in a statement. All the while, an air traffic controller is instructing the man to safely land the plane. I don't want to.

Normal operations at the airport were interrupted briefly but have resumed, the airport said. They pursued the aircraft before it went down on Ketron Island between Tacoma and Olympia.

"Oh man", Rich says, "Those guys will rough me up if I try and land there". "I'm a broken guy who had a few screws loose. I was kind of hoping that was going to be it, you know". "Never really knew it until now". His identity and condition are unknown.

The US Coast Guard sent a 45-foot (14-meter) vessel to the crash scene after witnesses reported seeing a large plume of smoke in the air, Petty Officer Ali Flockerzi said.

Witnesses in the area posted videos to social media showing the 76-passenger plane, meant for short flights, doing unsafe ariel maneuvers while F-15 fighter jets scrambled behind it. "The smoke lingered. You could still hear the F-15s, which were flying low". John Waldron was walking along a trail near the bay when he noticed the two military jets following a plane that appeared to be doing acrobatics.

Spokesmen for the Transportation Security Administration, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Aviation Administration directed inquiries to local authorities.
