Yemen: School Bus Hit in Airstrike, at Least 30 Children Dead

One dead, several wounded after Saudi Arabia 'intercepts Yemen missile'

The western-backed coalition fighting the rebel Houthi group in Yemen said the air strikes on Thursday targeted missile launchers used to attack the southern Saudi industrial city of Jizan, which killed a Yemeni civilian there, according to the state news agency SPA.

But the International Committee of the Red Cross said the strike hit a bus filled with children in the Huthi stronghold of Saada, causing dozens of casualties.

Hours later, well after the blast's violent rumble gave way to sirens and the victim's screams, a clearer sense of the human cost has emerged: At least 29 children under the age of 15, some as young as 6 years old, were killed in the attack, according to the International Committee of the Red Cross.

"Under global humanitarian law, civilians must be protected during conflict", the ICRC said as alarm grew among worldwide aid agencies.

A man carries a wounded child to the hospital Thursday after the Saudi-led coalition carried out an airstrike on a crowded area in Houthi-controlled Saada province.

There was no immediate comment from the coalition, which is led by Saudi Arabia and which is fighting to restore Yemen's internationally recognized government to power.

On Wednesday night, Col. Al-Maliki stated that at (20:34) the Coalition Air Defense detected a ballistic missile launch from Northern Amran in Yemen, aimed at Saudi Arabia.

The missile was sacked from the rebel-held Yemeni province of Amran towards the Saudi city of Jizan, the coalition said.

Now, West Nile fever comes to create panic in Kozhikode
Allegheny County and the state's first and now only human West Nile case was confirmed last Friday in a Penn Hills man. - Health officials said they have confirmed the first human case of West Nile Virus this year in Fairfax County.

Earlier, Maliki accused the Huthis of "recruiting child soldiers, throwing them in battlefields and using them as tools".

The children were traveling on a school bus that was hit by a Saudi coalition airstrike in Dahyan, the BBC reported.

Images broadcast by Houthi media showed scores of bloody children, some still wearing their backpacks as they were loaded onto stretchers.

Say: I want the State Dept to condemn the Saudis for bombing Yemeni children and I want the USA to stop selling weapons to Saudi Arabia.

Separately, a White House National Security Council spokesperson referred to "conflicting reports in global media" and said "we are waiting for an official assessment of what actually happened".

The strike was carried out by the Saudi Arabian-led coalition, which is backed in this war by the U.S.

Reuters reported that the militants have fired dozens of missiles into the kingdom in recent months, often intercepted by Saudi forces. That assistance has come under sharp criticism from Congress and the global community as civilian deaths have continued to multiply, even as the coalition promises not to target civilians.

The Yemen war has killed more than 10,000 people, displaced more than two million and driven the country to the verge of starvation, according to the United Nations.
