North Korea chides U.S. for following ‘outdated acting script’

John Bolton Says North Korea Hasn't Done Much To Rid Itself Of Nuclear Weapons

The latest statement by the North's foreign ministry also accused U.S. officials of "going against the intention of President Trump" by "making baseless allegations against us and making desperate attempts at intensifying the worldwide sanctions and pressure".

White House national security adviser John Bolton said Tuesday North Korea has done little to denuclearize, almost two months after the country's leader, Kim Jong Un, met with President Donald Trump.

The United States is "not willing to wait for too long" for North Korea to take steps toward denuclearization, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley said on Wednesday.

The unidentified spokesperson also warned that there is no guarantee that the hard-won atmosphere of stability on the Korean Peninsula will continue.

"However, the USA responded to our expectation by inciting worldwide sanctions and pressure".

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani told North Korea's foreign minister that the United States can not be trusted, Tehran's state media said, as the United States seeks a deal to rein in the North's nuclear and missile programmes.

North Korea's foreign ministry said on Thursday it had stopped testing missiles and conducting nuclear tests "followed by dismantling the nuclear test ground", and yet the United States still had insisted on "denuclearisation first". The letter was handed to North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho during the weekend.

North Korea appears to continue dismantling a rocket launching site, a US think tank said, based on satellite images.

Trump team unites in bid to topple Iran regime
The United States also plans to re-introduce potentially more damaging sanctions on Iranian oil in November. The country's rial currency has tanked, and the downturn has sparked protests across the nation.

The two sides vowed to work towards North Korea's denuclearisation at the summit, but have since struggled to reach a deal to meet that goal, with the United States insisting sanctions pressure must be maintained.

The United States was "attempting to invent a pretext for increased sanctions against the DPRK".

With such moves, "one can not expect any progress in the implementation of North Korea-US joint statement including the denuclearization, and furthermore, there is no guarantee that the hard-won atmosphere of stability on the Korean Peninsula will continue", said the spokesperson.

In another case, black coal imported from North Korea was transferred to the Russian port of Kholmsk, where it was "disguised as semi-coking coal that does not need country of origin documents", before being reloaded on ships heading to the South, the customs office said.

But, following the meeting, USA intelligence officials said they believed North Korea was "deceiving" the US, saying the regime was bolstering production for nuclear weapons at "multiple secret sites" in recent months. "It's just North Korea that has not taken the steps we feel are necessary to denuclearize".

They said it had also not agreed to definitions of the key terms of any agreement, or to any inspection of its nuclear test site, which it claims to have decommissioned, but which US intelligence officials have said may still be operable.

Washington has said that sanctions will not be lifted until Pyongyang fully and finally dismantles its nuclear weapons.

Two U.S. officials said North Korea appeared to view Trump as a softer touch.
