Actor Steven Seagal has been appointed as a special representative by Russian Federation for the United States-Moscow humanitarian ties relations. "The task is to promote the further development of Russian-American relations in the humanitarian sphere, including interaction in the field of culture, art, public and youth exchanges and more", it added.
"Everywhere you look in Russian Federation - the terms of Steven Seagal", wrote the editor of the Bureau of si-EN-EN in Moscow Nathan Hodge. Seagal will not accept a salary for apprising the role, akin to a United Nations' goodwill ambassador position both in terms of penance and responsibility.
But since then relations between the two countries have deteriorated, with U.S intelligence agencies accusing Moscow of meddling in the 2016 presidential election. The countries have also been at odds over the Syrian civil war and the Russian annexation of Crimea.
As for Russian and United States relations now, things are a bit contentious, to say the least. "I have worked tirelessly in this direction for many years unofficially and I am now very grateful for the opportunity to do the same thing officially".
CNN has reached out to Seagal's spokesperson for comment. He starred in film such as Under Siege and Above The Law. He said he had called Putin "ONE of the World's Great Leaders".
About it reports on Saturday a press-service of the MFA of Russian Federation.

President Vladimir Putin presented a Russian passport to US actor Steven Seagal in 2016, saying he hoped it would serve as a symbol of how fractious ties between Moscow and Washington were starting to improve.
Actor Steven Seagal on Sunday embraced his new role as a "special representative" of the Russian Foreign Ministry, saying he takes the role "very seriously". The actor attended Putin's recent swearing-in ceremony in May.
Russian Federation isn't the only country offering overtures to Seagal.
In a video of the event, Putin and Seagal shake hands.
