Trump says he would 'certainly meet' Iranian president

United States president Donald Trump said that he'd "certainly meet" with Iranian president Hassan Rouhani, and without preconditions, if the Iranian leader was willing.

"I would certainly meet with Iran if they wanted to meet", Trump added, saying he would require "no preconditions".

Speaking during a joint news conference with Italy's premier, Trump said he would meet with the Iranians "anytime they want to".

"I'll meet with anybody", he said.

"I'll meet with anybody", he said. Good for the country. 'Good for the country, good for them, good for us and good for the world.

And it's unclear whether Rouhani has any interest in meeting.

Trump responded with an all-caps tirade on Twitter: "NEVER, EVER THREATEN THE UNITED STATES AGAIN OR YOU WILL SUFFER CONSEQUENCES THE LIKES OF WHICH FEW THROUGHOUT HISTORY HAVE EVER SUFFERED BEFORE".

Trump withdrew from the landmark nuclear accord in May, saying it was too generous to Iran.

Trump aide's 'Russia ties' alleged in secret USA documents
As found in the records, Conway approved a warrant under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act in April 2017. It's requested by USA authorities or intelligence agents, and usually signed by the attorney general.

The 2015 agreement came in response to fears that Iran was developing a nuclear bomb.

The three major European signatories to the 2015 deal have been searching for ways to salvage it but cautioned Tehran that they may not be able to persuade many major investors not to bolt from business with Iran to avoid USA punishment.

Heshmatollah Falahatpisheh, the head of influential parliamentary committee on national security and foreign policy, suggested a US return to the nuclear deal, which would bring an end to the economic uncertainty, would be needed before Tehran could think of negotiating.

"Trump should first make up for his withdrawal from the nuclear deal and show that he respects his predecessors' commitments and global law", added Kharrazi, a former foreign minister.

Trump drew a comparison with his diplomacy toward North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, who Trump met in a June 12 summit with the aim of convincing Pyongyang to give up its nuclear arsenal, a decades-long objective that has eluded several USA presidents.

Trump pulled the USA out of the 2015 nuclear deal in May, and is set to reimpose full sanctions in two stages in August and November.

"I believe in meeting", he said, talking up the benefits of "speaking to other people, especially when you're talking about potentials of war and death and starvation and lots of other things".

Garrett Marquis, a spokesman for the president's National Security Council, later said in a statement that the US would not be lifting any sanctions or re-establishing diplomatic and commercial relations until "there are tangible, demonstrated, and sustained shifts in Tehran's policies".
