Trump repeats his call for a border wall

As President Donald Trump renews his battle with Congress to fund his multi-billion-dollar border wall with Mexico, Democratic lawmakers and liberal groups in California have stepped up their campaigns to blacklist businesses involved in building the border wall.

Trump's "zero tolerance" policy of prosecuting migrants entering the US without authorization, his separation of more than 2,500 children from their parents, and botched efforts to reunite many of them has drawn election-year criticism from both parties.

Meanwhile, leading auto exporting nations are reportedly planning to meet in the absence of the USA to discuss their response to President Donald Trump's tariff threat on vehicle imports. He then threatened to shut down the government if Congress didn't move USA laws "based on MERIT!"

Trump also said he would be willing to meet with Iran's leaders "anytime they want, no preconditions".

Ryan walked away with the impression they were all on the same page, which included deferring the debate on the Homeland Security appropriations bill that includes wall funding until after the midterms.

A funding fight also could prove a distraction from Republican efforts in the Senate to confirm Trump Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh by October 1. Conte's visit follows that of European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, who agreed to work with Mr. Trump towards "zero tariffs" between the US and EU. "It's time we had border security".

The US president said he and the Italian prime minister are united in their conviction that strong nations must have strong borders.

"They don't want the wall", Trump said. He added that money for the wall was "not a question of if, it's a question of when".

A firefighter from the city of Redding was killed as a result of the Carr Fire, California officials said in a statement Friday. Vibra Hospital, which provides long-term care, said patients were evacuated. "Several members have lost their homes".

The House is in recess and won't return until after Labor Day. Mr. Trump supports a plan to avert a shutdown before the election by passing some less-controversial spending bills and a short-term patch that would keep the rest of the government running, the administration official said. Current funding for the government expires September 30. "[Democrats] don't want the wall", Trump said in May.

Three months later, Trump has publicly returned to this line of thinking.

Democrats have long opposed financing Trump's wall but lack the votes to block House approval of that amount.

House Republicans released a spending bill this month that provides £3.81 billion next year to build Mr Trump's wall, a major boost. They do have the strength to derail legislation in the closely divided Senate.

Some of the cities boycotting these contractors also led the "sanctuary" campaign against the Trump administration's efforts to crackdown on illegal immigration by barring local law enforcement from communicating with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency and other federal immigration authorities.

He also said Congress must fix "the DUMBEST & WORST immigration laws anywhere in the world!" and urged voters to "Vote "R" in November.

The $5 billion is well above the $1.6 billion in the Senate version of the bill, which would finance the Department of Homeland Security.
