Washington’s Crimea strategy doomed to failure, Russian legislator assures

President Donald Trump's proposed Washington meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin has been delayed until 2019.

Bolton suggested the decision not to meet sooner was due to special counsel Robert Mueller's ongoing investigation into Russia's interference in the 2016 USA presidential election.

"S$3 o we've agreed that it will be after the first of the year", Bolton's statement said.

Pushing back against allegations of attempting to alter the historical record, the White House said Wednesday that the omission of a key question from its transcript of President Donald Trump's news conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin "was by no means malicious". This came amid the backlash over Trump's performance at a news conference with Putin following their Helsinki summit, and many members of Congress had objected to them meeting again in the fall.

Trump and Putin met in Helsinki a week ago behind closed doors, with no one else but their interpreters present.

Pompeo said he had personally told top Russian officials that there will be "severe consequences" for any interference in USA elections or the American democratic process.

In the interview, Pompeo acknowledged that he was not in the room when Trump and Putin met for almost two hours in Helsinki.

Trump met with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Singapore on June 12, where the United States said Kim had agreed to totally get rid of his nuclear weapons.

The remarks and Trump's overall performance - both at the Helsinki meeting with Putin and during the two-day North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit in Brussels the previous week - stunned diplomatic, security and intelligence experts in the USA and around the world.

Pompeo also addressed concerns over Trump's refusal in remarks after the summit to acknowledge the threat of Russian election interference, though he later attempted to walk back some of those comments.

In a statement released before the hearing, the State Department said the United States will never recognize Russia's annexation of Crimea and will continue to insist that Ukraine's territorial integrity be restored.

Pompeo faced tough questioning from Democrats and Republicans during testimony before the Senator Foreign Relations Committee about Trump's failure to hold the Russian president accountable for Moscow's meddling in the 2016 USA election at their meeting in Helsinki last week.

"What are we supposed to do with this guy?" said D'Antonio.

U.S. intelligence agencies have concluded that Moscow interfered to sway the vote toward Mr Trump, and a special counsel is investigating whether Mr Trump's campaign worked with the Russians.

"I really don't believe, Mr. Secretary, you know what happened during the president's two-plus hour conversation with President Putin, and I really don't know much more about the summit after sitting here for three hours than I did before", said New Jersey Sen.

Corker is not the only senator to voice concerns on the relationship between the Trump Administration and Russian Federation in recent memory, and Marco Rubio came out to voice his fears as well on Face The Nation, Inquisitr reported. The Quinnipiac poll said 63 percent of voters are "very concerned" or "somewhat concerned" about Russian interference in the upcoming vote.
