Emery respects Ozil's Germany choice, says Arsenal is his 'home'

Mesut Ozil recently announced his decision to retire from worldwide football after he received strong criticism from the Germany football federation after he was pictured with the Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

He said in Ankara it's "truly unacceptable that a young man who has given everything to the German national team and has contributed to its success is facing such a racist attitude because of his religion".

Arsenal open the new Premier League campaign with a home fixture against champions Manchester City on Aug.12.

He was heavily criticised by the German Football Association (DFB), media and politicians for meeting Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

"Everybody at the club is thinking like me to help him and to feel (good) here and express his quality with us". Emery said: 'It is a personal decision from Mesut and I respect it.

"We are every player´s family and for him to work every day, to work well with his team-mates, is good for us".

Erdogan told Turkish journalists on Tuesday he spoke to Ozil on Monday.

Ozil made a decision to cut short his holiday to join up with his Arsenal team-mates in Singapore for pre-season and the former Real Madrid star is ready to put a turbulent summer behind him.

Arsenal forward Reiss Nelson and midfielder Alex Iwobi sat alongside Ozil at the fan event in Singapore.

"We hope by the start of the season he will be fit and ready to perform".

"I prefer to give him normality in the team, he feels good with us". They also play Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday.

"What happened between him and the national team is his private matter so this is not an issue for us", said Cech.

Emery added: 'All of us want to help Mesut feel like it is his home here with us, like a family and it is a family for every player.
