Sexual Abuse at Ohio State

A lawsuit by four former Ohio State University wrestlers alleges the school failed to stop "rampant sexual misconduct" by the now-dead team doctor despite being repeatedly informed about his behavior.

Former athletes say they verbally raised concerns about Strauss as early as the late 1970s.

Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan, who was an assistant coach at the university from 1987 to 1995, met with investigators on Monday, NBC News reported.

The group has said their question is whether Mr. Jordan has been truthful in denying any knowledge of the alleged sexual misconduct. The high-ranking congressman was not named in the lawsuit, although he could be deposed as a witness.

The abuse is alleged to have taken place between 1979 and 1997, Friday's statement said.

This undated file photo shows an image of Dr. Richard Strauss.

"But these officials turned a blind eye to the abuse", the complaint says.

"We are aware of reports that individuals at the university did not respond appropriately during that era", said Benjamin Johnson, a spokesman for the university.

Mulvin said he was a sophomore or junior when he went to see Strauss because of a burn from his athletic supporter, which wrestlers use to protect their genitals.

Hundreds of fighters and their families were evacuated to northern Syria after a deal with the government. Mohammed said the bombing triggered a new wave of displacement, with hundreds leaving the town again.

The athletes' allegations moved into the courts this week with the filing of a federal lawsuit against the university. The suit says Geiger promised to look into doing something about the situation.

The lawsuit filed Monday seeks compensation for damages in an amount to be determined at trial. He was suing "individually and on behalf of all others similarly situated".

More than 100 ex-students interviewed reported "firsthand accounts" of being victimized by Strauss, the university said. He was a wrestler for OSU from 1982 to 1984.

OSU says its responses to any complaints are a key part of the investigation.

The Ohio State University remains actively committed to uncovering what may have happened and what university leaders at the time may have known.

"The interview took place Monday morning in OH", said Ian Fury, Jordan's spokesman, in a statement.

The investigation has ramifications far beyond the allegations of abuse. "If I had, I would have dealt with it", Jordan said in the Fox News interview.

Fourteen male students from the wrestling squad and other sports teams have alleged abuse by Strauss.

"I think the truth is coming out - all kinds of coaches, all kinds of former student athletes, all kinds of guys who wrestled for us - have said the same thing I've said and the reason they've said this is because it's the truth", he said.
