Amazon's Prime Day runs into snags swiftly

Amazon Prime Day 2018: Best deals so far including TVs, Fitbit and Echo Show

Sales will continue until 3 a.m. Eastern time Monday, but declined significantly within a couple of hours, according to Downdetector.com, which monitors web trouble. It says customers bought more pencils, pens, notebooks, glue sticks, lunch boxes and backpacks on Prime Day last year than any other day of the year.

'Some customers are having difficulty shopping, and we're working to resolve this issue quickly, ' Amazon tweeted hours after the site crashed.

The company's shares rose about 0.5 percent to touch a record high of $1,858.88 in early trading.

Others also reported experiencing problems with Amazon's video streaming services and its virtual assistant Alexa.

But Amazon Spain said the participation figure given by the union was wrong.

It is too soon to tell, protest organizers said, how the workers' strikes might affect shipments throughout Europe.

The glitch was embarrassing but wasn't likely to put much of a dent in Amazon's sales for the event, analysts said.

Prime Day was the best event ever for Amazon devices for kids, including Echo Dot Kids Edition, Fire 7 Kids Edition tablet and Fire HD 8 Kids Edition tablet. The event is in four new countries this year and it's running longer.

Amazon itself hasn't disclosed specifics, but Feedvisor's estimates are based on results from its clients. "Unless this is way beyond their wildest expectations, it's just odd".

Pogba's stirring pre-game speech that led France to glory
Red Devils midfielder Pogba scored as France beat Croatia 4-2 in the final to win the World Cup for the second time. It certainly got a reaction, with one Facebook user commenting: "I'm a United fan but Pogba can f*** off for that".

Despite tech glitches, Amazon Prime Day has been a huge success so far.

How can online shoppers access the Prime Day sale? While most of the issues were reported from the US, users in other continents faced problems as well.

In Australia, the activist group SumOfUs urged the public to donate sums ranging from $4 to $8 and fund ads against Amazon's employee policies.

"Way to go, Amazon.com".

It's impossible to keep up with the hundreds of thousands of offers and promotions during Prime Day, but the teams at Thrifter Canada will be doing their best to curate the deals and surface the ones worthy of your time. "Great planning. Can't get the app to load at all", Jessica Henning wrote on Amazon's Facebook page.

Looks like Amazon wasn't primed for Prime Day this year.

Whatever the sales tally may be, to Amazon, sales are only a secondary goal during that one-day event.

Amazon also said that 35% of new Prime members it added on Prime Day came from tier 2-3 towns. And Kodali said Amazon has plenty of time to salvage the day. "I am shocked this caught them off guard".

"PrimeDay - more crashes than the August return of students to Lawrence".
