Iran Files Complaint to UN Justice Court Against US New Sanctions

Reports detail Mossad raid on Iranian nuclear documents

"Today Iran filed a complaint @CIJ_ICJ to hold USA accountable for its unlawful re-imposition of unilateral sanctions", Zarif tweeted.

"Iran is committed to the rule of law in the face of U.S. contempt for diplomacy & legal obligations. It's imperative to counter its habit of violating int'l law", reads Mr. Zarif's tweet.

The U.S. pulled out of the deal in May, and since then the remaining countries - Russia, China, Germany, France and Britain as well as the European Union - have been negotiating with Tehran to try and save the agreement with economic incentives and guarantees.

EU countries on Monday gave European firms legal cover to operate in Iran despite the United States pullout from the nuclear deal, after a report that the Trump administration has rejected calls by Brussels for an exemption from sanctions.

Further sanctions on oil and transactions with Iran's central bank will come into effect November 6.

The International Court of Justice, the principal judicial organ of the United Nations, said in a statement Tuesday that the lawsuit was based on a treaty signed by Iran and the United States more than a half-century ago - well before the 1979 Islamic Revolution that overthrew the American-backed shah and ushered in the prolonged estrangement in relations between the countries.

"We are, of course, continuing to carry out and implement our obligations", a spokesman for Iran's Atomic Energy Organization, Behrouz Kamalvandi, told reporters in Tehran, Iran.

The US withdrew from the deal on May 8.

The MEA said both sides "reviewed and positively assessed" the progress in implementation of decisions taken during the state visit Iranian President to India in February 2018, especially for enhancing connectivity and strengthening cooperation in trade and economic issues. "It is necessary to put a stop to this behaviour", Zarif said. And not that you want to hurt anybody, but that regime wouldn't let the people know that we are behind them 100 percent.

This happened after Iran and six world powers in the summer of 2015 reached an agreement called Joint Comprehensive Plan Of Action (JCPOA) on its nuclear activities which aimed to delay Iran's ability to break out to a nuclear bomb.

He explained that the participants in the Iranian deal have agreed to work out measures to protect the countries' businesses from USA sanctions.

A delegation from the USA is arriving here tomorrow as part of the Trump administration's efforts to engage with major powers on the Iranian issue.

"The United States is obliged to stop these global breaches and compensate for all the damage inflicted", he said.

Its currency has plunged nearly 50 percent in value in the past six months against the United States dollar, prompting a rare strike earlier this month by traders in Tehran's Grand Bazaar.
