Trump says he 'misspoke' on Russian Federation election meddling

U.S. President Donald Trump said here on Tuesday that he will not lift the existing sanctions on Russian Federation, and that there is no "time limit" concerning the U.S. dialogue with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., told reporters Tuesday that Russian Federation "did meddle with our elections" and said he would consider further sanctions against Moscow.

McConnell and House Speaker Paul Ryan, who called Russia's government "menacing", said their chambers could consider additional sanctions on Russian Federation.

Sara Haines said she'd "never seen a more weaselly answer", while Sunny Hostin said she believes he'll never say "the election was compromised" because it "delegitimizes his presidency".

The president, in Helsinki, also criticised the FBI, Democrats, Hillary Clinton and the special counsel's investigation of Russia's election activities and possible Trump campaign complicity - all as an occasionally smiling Putin stood beside him in the Finland presidential palace.

Pence and Pompeo held a conversation with Trump on Tuesday in the Oval Office during which they advised Trump to "make clarifications" about his position on Russian election meddling, NBC News reported, citing a source familiar with the conversation.

On Tuesday afternoon, Trump addressed Monday's shocking Helsinki summit where the commander-in-chief sided with Vladimir Putin over the entire USA intelligence community when it came to the issue of Russian interference in the 2016 election.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said earlier Tuesday he wouldn't critique Trump's appearance with Putin.

"Any country that can spy does, and any country that can meddle in foreign elections does", Paul said on CNN on Monday.

China plays for time in trade war with subtle shift in tone
Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch called it "reckless", adding that the tariffs were "not a targeted approach". China can find other suppliers for soybeans and other American goods hit by its own retaliatory tariffs, state media said.

"President Putin says it's not Russian Federation".

Trump said Tuesday back at the White House that he meant to say that he didn't see any reason why Russian Federation "wouldn't" interfere.

In two interviews with Fox News and his tweets after the summit, Trump sounded defensive, and more surprised and frustrated by the reaction than contrite.

And then, because Trump was not buying any of this script he was reading, he added, extemporaneously: "It could be other people also".

"I'm not interested in this issue a single bit", he said, speaking through a translator."It's the internal political games of the United States".

"I think that Russian Federation is his friend and [he] only cares about collusion because he's so uncertain about his own victory", she added.

However, the average approval rating for Trump's treatment remained low, at 42 percent of registered voters.

Speaking to reporters at the White House, he insisted that "I have helped the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation alliance greatly" by prodding allies to spend more on mutual defense. I think that we have all been foolish. "Vladimir Putin does not share our values", said Ryan.

In the Senate, Democratic leader Chuck Schumer of NY called for Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and other top officials to appear before Congress and tell exactly what happened during Trump's two-hour private session with Putin.
