Boys trapped in Thailand cave mourn diver who died in rescue mission

Widow of hero diver who died during Thai cave rescue urges the boys not to blame themselves

"Local climbing and rope access workers rigged the dry cave section for that part of the rescue and scoured the bush for more entrances to the cave".

The 12 boys and their coach are resting in hospital after being rescued from a Thai cave. Flash floods had made it almost impossible for the team to escape the cave, although they were all saved after 17 days.

The efforts and skill of these guys in blazing this trail can not be underestimated.

Gunan was one of about 80 current and former Thai Navy SEALs who made up the bulk of the divers involved in the rescue effort.

After 17 days underground, their rescue mission was completed Tuesday.

When speaking about the major challenges the divers were facing, Volanthen said: "The visibility in the water is very low, varying down to a few inches".

"I have never seen anything like it with man battling to control the natural forces of the monsoon waters", Dr Harris posted. "Who will I kiss?"

Mr Narongsak said: "We expect that if there is no unusual condition ... the four boys, one coach, the doctor, and three Seals who have been with the boys since first day will come out today".

Dr. Harris works for the South Australian Ambulance Service's aeromedical evacuation service MedStar.

The Australian Defence Force flew the entire crew home on RAAF jet which left Thailand on Friday.

"The boys have promised to grow up to be good persons to honour Lt-Commander Saman", Jessada said, adding they wrote their condolences on a drawing of Saman and stood in silence.

And, the 47-year-old IT consultant from Bristol told The Times that the Adelaide anaesthetist's Aussie accent helped keep the boys at ease during the tense mission.

Inside the freezing cave, the coach and another boy hugged Titun to keep him warm, said his father.

The complex recovery, which saw Dr Harris navigate eight kilometres of winding underwater passages, put his name on the radar and propelled him to worldwide renown.

He added: "The pressure that was put on these (international divers) was enormous and they never dropped the ball for a second".

He spoke briefly as he departed Chiang Rai airport, refusing to accept credit.

"We were just using a very unique skill set, which we normally use for our own interests and sometimes we are able to use that and give something back to the community". It's quite the opposite.

Even when the boys were out safely, he remained inside the mountain making sure everybody involved in the mission was OK.

"I understand that everyone is anxious and have good wishes for them", Dr. Chokedamrongsook said.

The doctor and his Australian dive partner vet, Craig Challen, sent a message of thanks after the final group of boys were rescued on Thursday night.
