Trump should cancel Putin summit after Mueller indictments, Congress says

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau arrives in Riga Latvia on Monday

U.S. President Donald Trump said Friday he would "firmly" ask Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin about his country's meddling in the 2016 U.S. presidential election that has triggered a U.S. federal investigation Trump claims is a "rigged witch hunt". We have bben following a very bright path for the last 10 years and every summit is a step forward for us, including this summit where the leaders of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation member states assembled and gave the current events of Ukraine and Georgia a suitable name- Russian aggression and the occupation of independent states.

Most cable news networks broke away from coverage of the royal pageantry to carry Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein's announcement of indictments against 12 Russian intelligence officers for interfering in the US election.

Trump has faced pressure from lawmakers in both parties to raise the issue of Russian meddling in the 2016 election during the meeting with Putin.

In response to the indictment, Democrats overwhelmingly called for Trump not to meet with Putin. Nebraska Sen. Ben Sasse said in a statement that "all patriotic Americans" should know Putin is not "the President's buddy".

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida, who was Democratic National Committee chairwoman at the time of the hacking, issued a statement Friday that said the organization "was the first major target of the Russian attack on our democracy". "This is not a Republican or a Democrat view - it is simply the reality".

On Twitter, he said Putin was not America's friend, he was the nation's enemy.

Trump played down his extraordinary attack on Britain's plans for Brexit, praising Prime Minister Theresa May's leadership and insisting ties between the two countries "have never been stronger".

"It's time to say goodbye and for the younger players to step in", said Javier Mascherano, who at 34 said he was retiring from the national team.

President Trump himself should be the one to bring this message to Putin.

Trump reiterated Friday that he is not going into the meeting with high expectations, but he said the two leaders would also discuss "a number of things", including cuts to nuclear weapons arsenals.

Just days before the meeting, special counsel Robert Mueller indicted 12 Russians, alleging Friday they hacked into the Democratic National Committee to undermine the election.

"Germany is totally controlled by Russia because they will be getting 60-70 percent of their energy from Russia and a new pipeline", Trump said to reporters Wednesday morning, calling the alleged dependence on Russian energy "inappropriate".

Rosenberg warns of potentially bigger threat - Russia's growing influence in the Middle East.

"For some reason President Trump thinks that if he gets in the room with him, maybe he can warm Putin up and Putin will turn out to be a good guy - he's not". All 12 defendants are members of the GRU, a Russian federation intelligence agency within the main intelligence directorate of the Russian military, who were acting in "their official capacities".

Still, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein said the internet "allows foreign adversaries to attack Americans in new and unexpected ways".
