Novak Djokovic edges ahead in Wimbledon clash with Rafael Nadal

You should've known we were in for a marathon match when you saw American John Isner's name opposite South African Kevin Anderson in a Wimbledon men's semifinal between top-10 players.

The match lasted more than six hours, making it the longest semi-final match in the history of Wimbledon, and the second-longest in total. At the end, you feel like this is a draw between the two of us, but somebody has to win.

"John is a great guy and I really feel for him. I can tell you that Djokovic's weakness is his overhead", Becker said while commentating on the BBC coverage of the match.

"I apologize I'm not more excited right now", he continued. At the end of the day, I've put myself into the finals of Wimbledon, which is half of a dream come true.

Isner's 53 aces meant he beat Goran Ivanisevic's Wimbledon record haul - the Croatian sent down 213 in 2001 - but the 214th he served was his last of the tournament.

The 6-foot-10 Isner and the 6-foot-8 Anderson had played 11 times before on tour, but they also faced each other in college, including in the 2007 NCAA finals, which Isner won.

Should Nadal prevail in the duo's record 52nd showdown, the Spaniard will play Anderson in a repeat of last year's US Open final in NY.

Djokovic's 2017 Wimbledon campaign ended in a quarter-final retirement with an elbow injury which led to surgery and precipitated a worrying dip in form and confidence.

Didier Deschamps - France still not over loss in Euro 2016 final
The team got to the final for the third time thanks to Samuel Umtiti's header off a corner in the 51st minute. It lost in extra time in Paris in the final of the 2016 European Championship to Portugal.

Isner has won eight of the 11 professional matches against Anderson and is projected by many to advance from this battle of two of the game's biggest servers. It culminated in a gruelling 50-game final set in which the South African got to love-30 against Isner's serve on several occasions, but just couldn't pull off a service break.

Games went with serve in the third set with Nadal failing to convert three set points in the tie-break, allowing Djokovic to take the set when his opponent netted a backhand.

The 33-year-old American´s composure wasn´t helped by a delay caused by a ball boy slipping and falling.

The three-time Wimbledon remains the only player on the ATP Tour capable of defeating the pair on their favoured surfaces and he relished the cooler conditions. The first three sets all went to tie-breaks, with Anderson winning the first 8-6, before Isner took the next two by 7-5 and 11-9. Anderson moved to his first Wimbledon final as Isner produced his 59th unforced error.

Only seven of the previous 51 meetings between Nadal and Djokovic had been won by the player who lost the opening set, so it was a major boost to the Serb's hopes when he took the opener.

Nadal, the 2008 and 2010 champion, trails Djokovic, the 2011, 2014 and 2015 victor, 26-25 in a rivalry which began at Roland Garros 12 years ago.

Considering how Nadal and Djokovic played today, there's every chance they'll at least play for another couple of hours which would have to push back the women's final.
