French gangster uses helicopter to flee prison, manhunt under way

Inmate films French gangster Redoine Faid escaping in helicopter - Daily Mail

The helicopter was later found in a northeastern suburb of Paris about 60 kilometers (37 miles) from the prison, one source said.

The helicopter that extracted Faid yesterday flew right across the Paris region from the jail to the south-east of the capital, before being dumped not far from Charles de Gaulle airport to the north-east of the city.

A union representative for the prison told French news channel BFM that "two men dressed in black, wearing balaclavas and police armbands" broke into the visiting room with a grinder.

Faid was serving a 25-year prison sentence for a 2010 failed robbery in which a 26-year-old municipal police officer was killed.

The ministry said an armed commando landed in a helicopter in the courtyard as the prisoner was in the visiting room of the prison.

His fame has increased since then following appearances in several television shows and authoring books recounting his past and rise as a criminal in Paris' tough suburbs.

The brochure included no mention of a courtyard - large enough for a light utility helicopter such as, say, an Aerospatiale Alouette II - that would, notably, be the only part of the prison not covered by "anti-helicopter netting", according to the Associated Press. At that time he used four guards as human shields and explosives that were hidden in a tissue box to blow out prison gates.

Against Russia , Igor Akinfeev starred in the shootout while he failed to save at least two spot-kicks he might have kept out. A penalty was the only way they could cause us danger.

The helicopter then flew to the nearby Bourget area.

A police source said the helicopter pilot was a flight instructor waiting for a student when he was seized by Faid's accomplices, before being later freed in a state of shock.

This is Faïd's second prison break - in 2013 he escaped less than half an hour before arriving at a prison in northern France.

Faid was freed in 2009 after serving 10 years in prison and at the time he swore he had turned his life around.

He was captured on May 29, 2013 when authorities found him hiding out at a hotel in Pontault-Combault, east of Paris.

According to AFP, Faid has "said his life of crime was inspired by American films such as "Scarface" and "Heat".

Redoine Faid was in prison for armed robbery. In April this year, he was convicted on appeal of masterminding a 2010 robbery in which a young policewoman, Aurélie Fouquet, was killed.
