Winning WC all in the mind for Belgium

World Cup 2018 Romelu Lukaku Tells How Poverty Fired World Cup Dream

The World Cup has yet to see the best of Belgium, striker Romelu Lukaku warned on Saturday after scoring twice in the Group G seeds' 5-2 demolition of Tunisia to all but secure qualification to the next round with a game to spare.

"Some like him and some don't", he said. "People can say whatever they want about our team and about me".

It is a team that boasts the likes of Eden Hazard, Kevin De Bruyne, Thibaut Courtois and Lukaku and one that has been heavily tipped to do well since 2014. They have 34 goals and 15 assists in last 20 games they have played.

Lukaku, 25, grabbed a brace in the first half against the North Africans with two simple tap-ins to take his tally to four goals and also draw level with Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo in the race for the Golden Boot.

Tunisia captain Wahbi Khazri got his team's second with nearly the last kick of the match. We were talking about Lukaku to check and change the angle of his runs to create his own space that's what he did there.

Veteran striker Javier Hernandez doubled the lead when he scored after the main break, notching his 50th goal for Mexico in 104 internationals.

Under the Spaniard, Belgium's "golden generation" are finally coming together after two disappointing quarter-final exits at the last World Cup and Euro 2016. "For his second goal, he dinks it over the goalkeeper with his weaker foot and he's celebrating before it even crosses the line - supremely confident".

It's not just Belgium's starting XI who have impressed.

Martinez, who spent 28 million pounds to buy Lukaku from Chelsea in July 2014 when he was coach of Everton, has a different view over Lukaku's role in the Belgium side than Eden Hazard.

Though Michy Batshuayi came on in his place, and produced an equally impressive performance as the forgotten Chelsea man netted a goal, and also produced the most shots of any player despite being on the field for less than half an hour. "There will be opportunities for other players".

In the lead-up to the match, Lukaku had spoken of the pressure he felt in 2014 and said he planned to adopt a more carefree attitude in Russian Federation.

"It is going to be nice to see a couple of my club teammates on the pitch but as soon as the game starts, we will be all fighting for our countries".

Training is conducted in English under Spanish coach Roberto Martinez, who spent a decade managing in England.
