The document doesn't specify the terms of the settlement, so it's unclear if Samsung agreed to pay the $539 million it was supposed to, or if a different agreement was reached.
In a line which seems to be one that crops up over and over again, Apple and Samsung have once again been sparring over an ongoing legal battle relating to a design patent.
The case dates back to 2011, when Apple, under the direction Steve Jobs, vowed to launch the legal equivalent of "thermonuclear war" against Samsung and other Android phone vendors Apple was convinced were ripping off designs it had patented for the iPhone. The terms of the settlement were not disclosed in the court filing.
But it comes weeks after a U.S. jury ordered Samsung to pay Apple $539m (£403m) in damages for copying features of the original iPhone. Apple and Samsung in a district court filing in San Jose, California, confirmed that they were settling the issue, which has continued for almost seven years. "This case has always been about more than money". Since the case first came about, we've seen the judge rule in Apple's favor back in 2012, and an endless series of appeals since then.
Shaqiri snatches last-gasp win for Swiss over Serbia
Tensions have been building in Serbia ahead of the Switzerland match. "I think in football you have always emotions", he said. It's clear that emotions show up and that's how things happen.
We're grateful to the jury for their service and pleased they agree that Samsung should pay for copying our products.
"We believe deeply in the value of design", Apple said recently, "and our teams work tirelessly to create innovative products that delight our customers".
Samsung had previously paid Apple $399 million to compensate for patent infringement.
The case had been set to make yet another appearance in Koh's Northern California District Court to settle yet another pack of Apple infringement claims and Samsung counterclaims. The dispute costed both companies billions of Ringgit in litigation costs and penalties over the years, but it also changed the way patent laws worked in the US.
