Controversial Chechen Leader Grants Mohamed Salah Honorary Citizenship

Mo Salah

Egypt worldwide Mohamed Salah will consider quitting his time with the national team after becoming unhappy at the reaction of him becoming an honorary citizen of the Chechen Republic, according to CNN.

CNN in the US reports that the 25-year-old is considering quitting the Egyptian national team, due to "unhappiness" with how the FA have used him for political purposes.

Salah was injured in that game against Real Madrid and subsequently missed Egypt's opening World Cup match against Uruguay, though he played and scored in the 3-1 defeat by hosts Russian Federation.

Liverpool and Egypt superstar Mo Salah may be done with his national side once this World Cup concludes.

Salah and the team were stationed in Chechnya at the World Cup 2018 in Russian Federation.

Luis Suárez sends Uruguay through with victory over Saudi Arabia
It made Suarez the first Uruguayan player to score in three different World Cups as he sealed legendary status for his country. Salah gives this team a slight edge and that should be the difference as they earn the win.

Before the tournament began, Salah received an intense amount of backlash for being pictured smiling alongside Kadyrov, a leader branded by many as a tyrant due to his records of human rights abuses and public stances that are prejudicial and offensive to numerous groups of people.

But Salah is now believed to be weighing up his worldwide future. Kadyrov posed with Salah and Hany Abo Ride, chairman of Egypt's football federation for pictures.

In the social media post, Mr Kadyrov added that he wants Egypt to return to Chechnya after the World Cup for a friendly against local club Akhmat Grozny - named after his father, who was assassinated in 2004.

He handed Salah a decree declaring him a citizen at a dinner in honour of the Egypt team ahead of their departure for Volgograd, where they will play Saudi Arabia in their final group match on Monday.

It has been claimed that Kadyrov is looking to use sport as a means to bolster his image, and that he is using Salah to enhance his reach towards potential allies in North Africa and the Middle East. Kadyrov is looking to further diplomatic relations between the semi-autonomous state over which he rules and foreign governments, while also increasing foreign investment in the republic. Our enemies are paid to write things like that.
