Trump to be 'special guest' during House GOP Immigration Conference

House Speaker Paul D. Ryan takes questions from reporters Wednesday following a closed-door GOP meeting on immigration

The children are being held separately from parents who are being prosecuted under the administration's "zero-tolerance" policy for illegal border crossings. "I really try to look at the policy issues".

But Trump's backing has been seen as crucial, and his apparent pullback of support would be an embarrassing setback.

Rep. Yvette Clarke, a New York Democrat and a member of the Congressional Black Caucus, warned the administration about using the Bible to defend their policy.

Democrats lambasted the Trump administration's policies and said that keeping families together in federal custody was not a humane alternative.

Two White House officials said Short disclosed his plans Friday. "We have a chance".

However, he also stressed there would be some exceptions, noting that adults with offenses other than illegal entry would not be able to stay with their children. The Mormon church said it was "deeply troubled" by the separation of families and urged national leaders to find compassionate solutions. "The president is exhausted of watching people kick it down the road and not take responsibility and not fix the problems that we have".

"We are now a country that tells refugees - women fleeing violent abuse, young people fleeing murderous gangs and people fleeing terrorist groups - to go to hell", says Frank Sharry, a leading advocate for immigrants. "But you got to keep the family together".

Many Republicans view roll calls on the bills to be a crucial election-year statement to voters on where they stand on immigration. A growing number of Republicans have pushed back, including Sen. The bill does not yet address that issue.

"The Democrats forced that law upon our nation".

Republicans won't get any help from Democrats, who appear unified in opposition.

Coalition poised to take airport of Yemen's main port city
The UN Security Council called for the port to be kept open after a meeting on Thursday to discuss the assault on Hodeidah. In a statement, he held the United States and Britain responsible for the Saudi-backed attack on the vital port city.

The clash is the latest flare-up in what has become a almost monthlong drama within the Republican Party over immigration. Leaders released a schedule for next week that included "possible consideration" of immigration legislation. Republicans control both houses of Congress. Administration officials have said they need more money for detention beds to house the influx of immigrants resulting from the administration's "zero tolerance" policy of stepped-up border enforcement. He credits the petition and Republicans for pushing leaders to act.

"WH official tells @PamelaBrownCNN that Trump "misunderstood" the question about immigration this morning and does indeed support the GOP compromise bill - despite saying on Fox he doesn't". And this latest internal battle over the issue comes months before the November midterms.

Trump on Friday morning slammed the bill crafted by GOP lawmakers during an interview.

Earlier this month, activists called for worldwide intervention in the US push to separate migrant children from their parents, a practice the Human Rights Watch called "cruel".

But Trump seemed to dismiss that proposal, and others like it, in his speech on Tuesday afternoon. "Thousands and thousands of judges they want to hire".

"So you put them in a correctional facility with their parents?" Republicans are increasingly anxious about the problem. Prior procedure had limited prosecution for many family entrants, in part because regulations prohibit detaining children with their parents since the children are not charged with a crime and the parents are. "We are enforcing the laws passed by Congress", she said, calling on Congress to reform immigration laws. "I think we can do both".

Ryan says, "We don't want kids to be separated from their parents", but adds that the policy is being dictated by a recent court ruling. "She believes we need to be a country that follows all laws, but also a country that governs with heart".

The House is scheduled to vote next week on two competing immigration measures.

Votes on immigration bills could be held as soon as next week, although Ryan said Thursday he "won't guarantee passage" of any measure.

Some members fear that Trump has a mercurial history of supporting legislation, like the omnibus spending bill earlier this year and health care bills in 2017.

Trump's comments sent lawmakers into a last-minute tizzy as they prepare for potential votes in the coming week.
