Alan Dunlop, professor of architecture at te Glasgow School told The Guardian, "The building does look as though from the inside it's been totally gutted".

Nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution.

Authorities ordered evacuations after fire crews arrived at the scene to tackle the blaze.

Deputy chief officer of SFRS Iain Bushell said, "This is an extremely challenging and complex incident, but the response and professionalism of our firefighters have been exceptional".
