North Korea media focuses on global relations after Trump-Kim meet

Kim persuaded Trump to end the US annual joint military exercises with South Korea and even got Trump to call them “war games” and “provocative”

In the aftermath of his meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, US President Donald Trump declared that North Korea is no longer a nuclear threat.

"We signed a very good document", he said.

During a recent interview with Fox News host Bret Baier, Baier reminded Donald Trump that Kim Jong-un has absolutely murdered countless North Koreans. "If there's a chance at peace, if there's a chance to end the terrible threat of nuclear conflict, then we must pursue it at all costs", he added.

The joint statement, however, contained only a vague commitment to "complete denuclearization of the Korean peninsula" - terminology favored by Pyongyang and Beijing.

Kim has not yet taken any concrete step to dismantle his nuclear programs.

"Regardless of the smiles in the summit, many in Japan, South Korea, and the U.S. Congress doubt that North Korea is honest in its intentions", Axios reveals from the report. "No more nuclear testing or rockets flying all over the place, blew up launch sites", Trump wrote.

White House staff said Trump's seat-of-the-pants changes on the day of the summit undercut their plans to roll out the agreement. I can only speak to the fact that we signed an incredible agreement.

In the Kim-Trump relationship, this is where the rubber meets the road. I met. I met, We met, we had great chemistry. "It does not meet the minimum requirements in terms of what we expected them to do", Ambassador Joseph Y. Yun, the former special USA representative to North Korea, told CNN. But peace has a cost and, given the current U.S. narrative that seeks to avoid foreign entanglement and is fed up with spending money on global commitments, it will require the United States to manage its shaky alliances if this is to be a realistic prospect. Trump also used language often employed by North Korea to describe those exercises, calling them "provocative" and "war games".

"Making unnecessary and unreciprocated concessions is not in our interests - and it is a bad negotiating tactic", Republican Sen. It leaves open, however, the possibility of North Korean provocations down the line created to pressure Seoul and possibly split the alliance with the US.

Trump accepted North Korea deliberately vague language about “denuclearization of the Korean peninsula”, with no specific reference to its nuclear weapons

Up to that point, the North "really did not prioritise the ending of exercises by the United States and South Korea", said Bonnie Glaser, senior Asia advisor at Washington's Center for Strategic and International Studies.

Pyongyang typically reacts furiously. They also tend to believe that sanctions will not work against the North, given China's unwillingness to let its client collapse and possibly be replaced with a united Korea allied with the United States and perched on its borders.

And Friday, the president told Fox & Friends, "He's the head of a country - and I mean he's the strong head".

Trump continued to admit that when "he speaks and his people sit up at attention". On the eve of that march, she said on "Democracy Now!": "The people of North and South Korea want very much (for) peace to prevail on the Korean Peninsula".

Back in Washington on Friday, when a reporter asked him why he had not more forcefully challenged Kim on human rights, Trump replied that he was trying to cultivate a friendship with him to avoid military conflict.

'How can he love his people if he's killing them?' asked a reporter, referencing Trump's series of comments praising Kim, despite North Korean work camps, a gulag system, political killings, and occasional starvation.

'You know why? Because I don't want to see a nuclear weapon destroy you and your family, ' Trump said.

For America's allies in Asia, the outcome of President Trump's summit meeting with Kim Jong-un has been decidedly mixed.
