Milos Raonic falls to Roger Federer at Stuttgart Open final

Roger Federer again wins the 98th title in Stuttgart Open

Federer returned to action this week in the Mercedes Cup and is in the final of the event after a 6-7, 6-2, 7-6 win over Kyrgios in the semifinals.

The 20-time Grand Slam champion had already secured his return to number one in the world rankings with victory over Nick Kyrgios in the semi-final.

It is Federer's first tournament in 11 weeks, with the Australian Open and Wimbledon champion having made a decision to give the claycourt season a miss.

The opening set was a tight affair without any breaks of serve, although Federer did earn two break points in the second and eighth games.

The Canadian hammered 19 aces to eliminate defending champion Lucas Pouille 6-4, 7-6 (7/3).

In a mirror image of the first set, the two players were locked on serve until they were separated by an ultimate tie-breaker.

"It's great news that I will be No.1 and I'm really excited to be in the finals here against Milos Raonic", said Federer.

Judge jails former Trump campaign chair Manafort ahead of trial
Manafort is due to go on trial in Washington in September and faces another trial on related charges in Virginia in July. Mueller's office has described Kilimnik as a Russian intelligence asset who was active through the 2016 election.

"We've played so many breakers and it could have gone either way".

Victory in Germany cements Federer as the World Number One ahead of the defence of his Wimbledon title on the grass of SW19.

"I was there in the most important moments, breaking Milos (in the first set) was a good effort".

Federer needed to respond quickly and he did so superbly, following up an early break in the third game with another in the seventh to wrap up the second set in just 26 minutes and level the scores.

Raonic gained the upperhand when he was able to steal a point to gain a 3-1 lead in that tiebreak.

Going into Sunday's final, Federer has a 10-3 winning record against Raonic, 27, and Federer triumphed in their last meeting at the quarter-final stage of last year's Wimbledon.

His run to the final in Germany ensured he usurped previous world No 1 Rafael Nadal at the top of the ATP rankings, and if he wins in Halle next week - a traditional Federer stronghold - he will arrive at Wimbledon in July looking for his 100th title on tour.
