Collage of Deputies Theresa King and Patrick Rohrer killed following shooting

A female deputy who was shot Friday as she and another deputy were transporting prisoners from a courthouse has died, officials in Kansas City, Kansas, said Saturday.

Two Kansas sheriff's deputies who were shot and killed by an inmate while transporting him between the courthouse and jail were both parents, authorities said on Saturday.

The Wyandotte County Sheriff's Office said the Kansas City Police Department is investigating the incident and the accompanying surveillance footage.

Deputy Theresa King, 44, died from her injuries Saturday after being shot in the line of duty in Kansas City on Friday.

Both deputies were taken to the University of Kansas Health System, where one of the deputies succumbed to his injures, said Kansas City police Chief Terry Zeigler. The suspect was also shot and underwent surgery, but his condition was unkown. Authorities aren't looking for any other suspects, Blair added. Video from the scene showed the courthouse surrounded by yellow police tape, several police vehicles parked in the street and numerous uniformed law enforcement officers walking the grounds.

Bailiff conceded that Wyandotte County's law enforcement agencies are reeling from a series of tragedies, including the shooting death of Kansas City, Kan., police detective Brad Lancaster in May 2016 and the shooting death of Kansas City, Kan., police captain Robert Melton in June 2016.

Details of what led to the shootings have not been released.

The Kansas City Star reports that the shooting happened on Thursday afternoon in the north of the city.

Kansas Gov. Jeff Colyer said in a statement he was "saddened" by the news. Zeigler said the last he heard, he was in stable condition. He offered a moment of silence for the deputies after he finished his speech at the event.

A spokesman for Wyandotte County, Edwin Birch, previously told CNN the shooting occurred inside the court services building, and that a juvenile had also been shot.
