NTSB updates on fatal Model X crash

Tesla Shares Seen as 'Under-Owned,&apos by Analyst Kallo

The National Transportation Safety Board's initial reportalso stated that the vehicle, a Tesla (TSLA) Model X, had the Autopilot function engaged ahead of the March 23 crash.

After the accident, which took the life of the driver, had gathered a lot of media attention and scrutiny from the NTSB, Tesla released a detailed report of what it thought happened based on the vehicle's data logs.

Investigators blame a mistake made by Tesla's Autopilot system for a mistake that killed Wei "Walter" Huang in a Tesla auto crash.

Four seconds before the crash, the Tesla no longer detected a vehicle in front of it, and with the cruise control engaged and set at 75 mph, it began speeding up, from 62 mph three seconds before impact to 70.8 mph at the time of impact.

Investigators said the Tesla slowed from 75 miles per hour to 65 miles per hour behind a slow-moving vehicle that struck the barrier at 71 miles per hour, which sheered off part of the auto.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Huang complained to his family earlier that his 2017 Tesla Model X had attempted to veer into the barrier while on Autopilot before. "Stationary objects are also a challenge for many adaptive cruise control systems and automated emergency braking systems", he said.

In the minute leading up to the crash, the vehicle's event recorder showed that Huang had his hands on the wheel three separate times, for a total of 34 seconds, but didn't touch the wheel for six seconds leading up to the crash.

California lawmaker recall sets up fall gas tax battle
Senator Roger Wicker , Republican of MS , won his primary contest as did Senator Bob Menendez, Democrat of New Jersey . However, Republicans did avoid a potential lockout in the governor's race after President Donald Trump weighed in.

During the 18-minute 55-second segment, the vehicle provided two visual alerts and one auditory alert for the driver to place his hands on the steering wheel.

As the vehicle approached an area where two lanes diverged and became separated by a highway barrier, the vehicle moved to the left and drove on a path that would lead it directly into the barrier's crash attenuator - which is created to limit the impact from collisions - which had been damaged in another collision less than two weeks earlier.

The preliminary report didn't include conclusions about what caused the crash. At the time, a company spokesperson said Tesla meant to file an official complaint with the federal government. A Tesla website says its vehicles have "full self-driving hardware". The NTSB said the crash remains under investigation and that it could make changes to its preliminary report as it does more research on the matter. "The focus is on what led to this crash and how do we prevent it from happening again".

After striking the gore point's crash attenuator, the Tesla struck two other cars. Back in April, the NTSB announced that Tesla had been taken off of the investigation for releasing information before it could be vetted and confirmed.

Tesla had issued comments blaming the driver of the Tesla SUV.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is also investigating the case of a Model S driven by a 28-year-old woman that struck a stopped fire truck on a South Jordan, Utah, roadway on May 11.
