White House confirms Kim Kardashian West is visiting to discuss clemency case

Kim Kardashian to ask Trump to pardon great-grandma serving life sentence for first-time drug offence

Earlier in the day White House press secretary Sarah Sanders confirmed the visit, but wouldn't say whether Kardashian would meet Trump or what would be discussed.

Trump, a former judge on the USA version of The Apprentice, later tweeted that it had been a "great meeting", and said that he and Kardashian West had discussed "prison reform and sentencing". "We'll keep you posted on any meetings that take place and what those look like", CNN reported.

According to a report from Vanity Fair, Kardashian learned of the plight of 62-year-old Alice Marie Johnson, a great-grandmother now serving jail time for a low level offence, and chose to lend her star power to the cause.

Kardashian West Wednesday night thanked the president for his time and reiterated she hopes he will grant clemency to Johnson. She made it to the White House for one on one conversation with President Trump over the issue of a great grandmother who is serving lifetime sentence for her first time nonviolent drug crime. Kardashian has had several phone conversations with Trump's son-in-law and senior adviser Kushner on the subject over the course of several months, Mic reports, leading up to Wednesday's meeting.

Trump says North Korea talks positive, expects Kim letter
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov (right) shakes hands with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un during a meeting in Pyongyang. However, officials both sides have since said they are still working toward making the June 12 meeting happen.

Per Vanity Fair, "White House staffers have joked about who will get to accompany her to the West Wing, and what they should wear for the occasion". "Nice assembly with @KimKardashian at this time, talked about jail reform and sentencing", Trump tweeted, together with a portrait of the pair behind the Resolute desk within the Oval Workplace.

She was sentenced to life in prison without the chance of parole and has been in prison for 21 years. It's something I know we can't even tackle with Trump.

The talk show host shocked her audience when she said Kardashian only met with Trump because she's "bored" and "unsatisfied" in her marriage with Kanye West.

It's the latest development in the case after it became national news last year when Kim brought the 62-year-old's plight to the world stage via Twitter and her 60 million followers.
