Trump Announces Surprise Pardon for Dinesh D'Souza

Trump pardons Dinesh D’Souza, conservative agitator who pleaded guilty to campaign finance fraud

President Donald Trump says he will pardon conservative commentator Dinesh D'Souza, who pleaded guilty to campaign finance fraud.

Regarding Blagojevich, Trump said he was considering commuting his sentence, which he described as "really unfair" punishment for "foolish" behavior.

What do those three people have in common? Lewis "Scooter" Libby, former Vice President Dick Cheney's onetime chief of staff, who was convicted in 2007 of lying to investigators and obstruction of justice following the 2003 leak of the covert identity of Central Intelligence Agency officer Valerie Plame. The prosecutor in the case, then-U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara in Manhattan, was an Obama appointee. He was thereafter sentenced to eight months in a halfway house near his home in San Diego and five years of probation.

Stewart had been prosecuted by former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey, whom Trump fired recently.

Blagojevich, who was once a contestant on Trump's "Celebrity Apprentice", began his 14-year prison sentence in 2012 after being found guilty of corruption-related charges.

In April, Mr Trump pardoned Lewis "Scooter" Libby, who was chief of staff to former vice president Dick Cheney and was convicted in 2007 of lying in an investigation into the unmasking of a Central Intelligence Agency agent. Fitzgerald, in yet another twist, was appointed as special prosecutor by none other than James Comey.

Blagojevich was facing charges when he was on Trump's reality TV show, "Celebrity Apprentice", in 2010.

The illegal campaign contribution was made in 2012 to Long's U.S. Senate campaign.

D'Souza also thanked Trump on Twitter: "Obama & his stooges tried to extinguish my American dream & destroy my faith in America". "He was treated very unfairly by our government!"

Cavaliers drop Game 1 in OT to Warriors
Of course, Game 1 was a classic, perhaps throwing salt on the theory people are bored with these two teams playing each other. And then tonight in the finals on the biggest stage, when our team played well, played our ass off, man, it ain't right.

"In light of these facts, the President has determined that Mr. D'Souza is fully worthy of this pardon".

"And If you look at what he said he said something to the effect like what do I get ... stupid thing to say".

D'Souza pleaded guilty in 2014 over donating $20,000 to NY politician Wendy Long.

Trump announced one pardon Thursday and said he was considering two others.

"As our office's record reflects, we will investigate and prosecute violations of federal law, particularly those that undermine the integrity of the democratic electoral process, without regard to the defendant's political persuasion or party affiliation", he said in 2014.

Conservatives rallied around D'Souza, saying he had been singled out in a politically motivated prosecution by President Barack Obama's Justice Department.

The president, who has never met D'Souza or spoken to him, last night called him on the phone to inform him about his decision.

Most recently, he apologized for a tweet taunting survivors of the shooting in Parkland, Fla., after Florida lawmakers opted not to ban assault weapons.

"Worst news since their parents told them to get summer jobs", D'Souza tweeted next to a photo of students disappointed by the Florida legislature's failure to approve a ban on assault weapons. In another tweet, he wrote "Adults 1, kids 0". "Mr. D'Souza accepted responsibility for his actions, and also completed community service by teaching English to citizens and immigrants seeking citizenship".

Arpaio is now running in the Republican primary for a U.S. Senate seat in Arizona.
