Roman Abramovich quit rumours denied by Chelsea

Chelsea stadium put on hold

Chelsea's plans for a new stadium were put on hold indefinitely this week due to an "unfavourable investment climate".

Earlier, it was reported that Roman Abramovich got an Israeli citizenship and arrived in the territory of the country.

Former Chelsea chief executive Trevor Birch has told BBC Radio 4 he believes the delay in renewing Roman Abramovich's visa has left the club facing a period of uncertainty.

Chelsea said: "No further pre-construction design and planning work will occur".

The club released a statement suggesting that plans to increase the capacity of the stadium to 60,000 will be postponed due to the "current unfavourable investment climate".

"He will want to clarify any misunderstanding and speculations".

Reports from the Times claim that the Russian plans to sell the club at the rate of KSh 156.7 billion to make up for the money he has spent at the club in the last 15 years.

Golden State Warriors: 8 takeaways from Game 7 win vs. Rockets
LeBron James has rescued the Cavaliers from a 3-1 deficit in the NBA Finals and just pulled them out of a 2-0 hole against Boston. He's vital to how they play, and it was no coincidence that it took everything they had to get past Houston without him.

But after his United Kingdom visa expired the BBC reports that the Russian is "unwilling to invest in a major project in a country where he is not allowed [to] work".

"Maybe he will support Israeli football because in fact it's in a pitiful state", Koren said, citing Chelsea's success and adding wistfully: "If only we had a football team at such a level".

Since Abramovich took them over the club has won five Premier League titles, five FA Cups and one Champions League during the most successful spell in the club's history.

The club was looking to build the new stadium on the current Stamford Bridge site, and planned to moved in by 2021.

The Russian billionaire on Thursday, sanctioned the decision to put all further developments of Chelsea's home ground on hold.

Chelsea are expected to move into gear when director Marina Granovskaia returns from a break next week but Sarri no longer appears to be first choice to succeed Conte amid concerns about his past.
