Lions and tigers break out of zoo cages in western Germany

Several animals were freed from their cages by flooding at a western Germany zoo on Friday.

It's been reported that the animals have broken out from the privately owned Eifel zoo in Lünebach, Germany.

Eifel Zoo has nearly 400 animals of 60 exotic and native species, including lions, tigers, and other big cats on its 30-acre site.

It is reported that a river overflowed and wore down fences, allowing the unsafe animals a way out. The five big cats were found within the confines of the park and were recaptured in the afternoon. It is home to some 400 animals, including around 60 exotic and native animals, according to Eifel Zoo's site. Wildlife lovers said the case showed wild animals should not be kept in cages.

Europe's trade confrontation with the US escalates
Malmstrom said that specific retaliatory measures would be submitted to the World Trade Organization by June 20. Trump's remarks follow a refusal by Trudeau to accept terms laid out by the USA administration.

Friday's great escape comes two years after two lions broke out of their cages at a zoo in Leipzig in eastern Germany.

It was not clear how and when the animals escaped.

As it turned out, the cats had never left the sprawling 30-hectare Eifel Zoo in Luenebach, much of which was under water after huge thunderstorms overnight.

The drama peaked midmorning when the bear was discovered - and shot dead.
