CIA report says North Korea won't denuclearize

Kim Jong-un committed to complete denuclearisation, says Moon Jae-in after North-South 'surprise' summit

Trump wrote in a tweet, hailing the formation of a "great team" for the talks.

The same day, Abe's Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga also expressed hope that a Trump-Kim meeting would result in "progress on the nuclear and missile issues and above all the abductee issue".

KELLY: Even as the president honors those who paid the ultimate price in wartime, the president is also focused on a peacemaking effort with North Korea. "Thank you all very much we appreciate it. Congratulations everybody".

"While explaining the outcome of my summit with U.S. President Trump held last week, I relayed the message that President Trump is firmly willing to end his country's hostile relationship with North Korea and enhance economic cooperation should Chairman Kim make a decision on complete denuclearization and implements it", Moon said.

"Trump will attempt to fix a specific date for the North's denuclearization and demand initial disarmament steps to show that his negotiations with the North are different from the past ill-fated ones", Park Won-gon, a security expert at Handong Global University, said.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un's de facto chief of staff, Kim Chang Son, meanwhile, flew to Singapore via Beijing on Monday night, Japanese public broadcaster NHK reported.

Despite repeated references to "denuclearization" by the North, it remains unclear whether Kim will ever agree to fully abandon his nuclear arsenal, despite Moon's insistence that Kim can be persuaded to abandon his nuclear facilities, materials and bombs in a verifiable and irreversible way in exchange for credible security and economic guarantees.

Kim Yong Chol, one of Kim Jong Un's top lieutenants, is apparently playing a major role in rescheduling the meeting.

India not mediating between US and North Korea
India imported $10.5 billion worth of goods, mainly crude oil , and exported commodities worth $2.4 billion. But New Delhi might come under pressure from Washington to minimise its economic partnership with Iran .

A vice chairman of the ruling Workers' Party, Kim Yong Chol has been deeply involved in North Korean diplomacy this year.

The summit, aimed at bringing an end to Pyongyang's nuclear program, was tentatively planned for Trump to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on June 12 in Singapore.

Washington had earlier blacklisted him in 2010 for torpedoing the South Korean warship Cheonan, killing 46 sailors. That suggests Kim might have chosen to first go to NY because it would make it easier for him to communicate with officials in Pyongyang, North Korea's capital. Both Seoul and Washington imposed sanctions on him in recent years.

South Korea's President Moon Jae-in said on Monday there could be more impromptu talks and summits with North Korea's Kim Jong Un, as USA officials prepare for a historic meeting between President Donald Trump and Kim. But it's not known what else he'll do there. But in March, when South Korean K-pop groups appeared in Pyongyang, Kim Yong Chol went to speak to the South Korean press that had traveled for the performance and reportedly introduced himself this way: "I'm Kim Yong Chol, the man you blame of sinking the Cheonan".

In October 2000, then North Korean leader Kim Jong Il, the late dictator father of Kim Jong Un, sent Vice Marshal Jo Myong Rok to Washington on a then-unprecedented goodwill mission.

Analysts believe the USA side will be seeking to determine whether North Korea is willing to agree on sufficient steps towards denuclearisation to allow a summit to take place. Moon said Kim said he looked forward to meeting with Trump and "made clear once again his intentions to completely denuclearize the Korean Peninsula". Three thousand miles away in Singapore, a team of United States logistics officials arrived late Monday and was expecting the arrival of a corresponding team from Pyongyang.

Kim has already met Pompeo twice in Pyongyang.

They discussed their shared goal of achieving "the complete and permanent dismantlement of North Korea's nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons and ballistic missile programs".
