'Murdered' Russian journalist turns up alive at news conference in Ukraine

Russian journalist Arkady Babchenko was fatally shot at his apartment in Kiev Ukrainian police said Tuesday

A well-known Kremlin critic, Mr Babchenko stood in unofficial elections organised by the opposition in 2012 and denounced Russia's actions in Syria and eastern Ukraine. "Special apologies to my wife".

Mr Babchenko, 41, is one of Russia's best-known war reporters, but was forced to leave the country a year ago because of repeated threats against him and his family. He was an outspoken critic of the Kremlin.

In Kiev, he hosted a programme on the Crimean Tatar TV station ATR. The wounded Babchenko was found by his wife and died in an ambulance on the way to the hospital.

Babchenko used his time in the press conference to apologize to his loved ones for putting them through the pain of grieving for his death.

A day earlier it was reported that he had been shot dead at the door of his apartment in Kiev - with numerous commenters in Ukraine blaming Russian Federation for the crime.

A criminal investigation is now under way.

The Russian foreign ministry responded by saying that journalists were being killed with impunity in Ukraine. Investigators from Australia and the Netherlands last week blamed Russian Federation for the tragedy. "The killers attacked all of us by choosing the most honest, noisy, and fearless one, the one who is in the public eye", Kanygin said in a Facebook post. "We demand that the Ukrainian authorities make every effort to promptly investigate", it said on Facebook.

United are close to agreeing a deal for Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred as well as Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld . Jose Mourinho is a big fan of the Brazil worldwide and wants him on board before the World Cup gets underway next month.

Pro-Kremlin activists unleashed a campaign of harassment against Babchenko, forcing him to flee Russian Federation past year. It was shot down and 14 people on board were killed.

"I could offer my condolences to to Arkady Babchenko's family, but I will not", Gritsak said before introducing Babchenko alive, according to The Telegraph.

Dmitry Muratov, the former longtime editor for the independent Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta, said the killing recalled the murder of one of Russia's best-known commentators, Anna Politkovskaya, who was killed, execution-style, inside her apartment building in Moscow in 2006. He spoke about leaving the country past year because of repeated threats against himself and his family.

He served in the Russian army during the first separatist war in Chechnya during the 1990s and later became a journalist, working as a military correspondent for several Russian media outlets.

He wrote about his experience as a young soldier in the Chechen campaigns in a book published in English under the title "One Soldier's War".

Mr Babchenko also wrote for the BBC, reporting from the scene of a Ukrainian army helicopter shot down in the east of the country in 2014.

In recent years, he became increasingly alienated from Moscow journalists critical of the Kremlin. A lot of them were vociferous critics of the Kremlin.
