Venezuela expels two USA diplomats after election sanctions

Nicolás Maduro

Venezuela's president said Tuesday that he would expel Todd Robinson, the US chief of mission, and another USA official.

Luis Emilio Rondon, the sole opposition voice on the electoral council, backed Falcon and Bertucci's claims of irregularities and said he too refused to recognize the results.

"The dominant and decisive reason why the opposition progressively withdrew from the elections was the decision by the extremist US government to not validate or legitimize a presidential election that they knew fully was going to be won in any scenario by the candidate of Nicolas Maduro", Maduro said. "You seek treatment", said Nayra Martinez, a city employee in the wealthy Caracas district of Chacao who made a decision to buck her party's call to abstain. Cabello, the vice president of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), has rejected the accusations as false.

"I call on all of the presidential candidates who participated in the election of May 20... to a meeting for dialogue in order to establish a constructive agenda", he said on Monday.

The order came one day after Maduro won a presidential election that many consider to have been fraudulent.

But there are other things Trump could do short of ordering an oil embargo, such as cutting US exports of diluents to Venezuela.

"Venezuela's election was a sham - neither free nor fair".

North Korea congratulated Nicolás Maduro on winning Venezuela's election

In a congratulatory message on Saturday, Rouhani said the successful, calm and healthy elections recently held in Venezuela under the shadow of economic sanctions and foreign powers' threats was a great success and victory for the Venezuelan government and nation. "The illegitimate result of this fake process is a further blow to the proud democratic tradition of Venezuela". The vice president did not, however, cite evidence to support the allegations of fraud.

The group consisting of Brizil, Argentina, Colombia, Canada, chile, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru and Saint Lucia, in a statement said their diplomats in Caracas would return to their respective countries for consultations.

Maduro's government, however, said the USA was using new sanctions to sabotage the election. If Maduro presses forward, he warned, Venezuela will explode before his new six-year term is scheduled to begin in January.

However, Russia, El Salvador, Cuba and China congratulated President Maduro on his election win.

Moreover the Venezuela's foreign ministry released a statement referring to the USA sanctions "a crime against humanity".

The declaration affirms that the 14 countries within the group will reduce the level of democratic relations with the Latin American country. He said the two men would have 48 hours to depart the country.
