Trump disclosure of lawyer payment raises new legal questions

The official said they leaked the documents because two suspicious-activity reports detailing Cohen's financial activities were missing from a government database

A payment from President Donald Trump to his attorney Michael Cohen - believed to have gone to adult film star Stormy Daniels - should have been disclosed previous year, the Office of Government Ethics said Wednesday.

The single line, included at the bottom of a page in the middle of the latest financial report, helps explain why Trump legal team member Rudy Giuliani publicly acknowledged the payment for the first time earlier this month, during a Fox News interview.

"Did Trump's request not to have to certify that his financial disclosure report was true constitute evidence of his consciousness of guilt with respect to the debt to Cohen for the Stormy Daniels payment?"

The statement is a footnote on page 45 of the 92-page disclosure, in tiny print, and goes on to say: "Mr Cohen sought reimbursement of those expenses and Mr Trump fully reimbursed Mr Cohen in 2017". "Cover-ups should always matter".

Trump's disclosure of the repaid debt to Cohen did little to clear up confusion about the total size of the reimbursements.

The ethics disclosure also contained information on Trump's personal businesses.

In the wake of the remarks, critics said that Trump had still broken campaign finance laws because he had not declared the payment to the Federal Election Commission (FEC).

Trump acquired the resort in 2014 for around €8.7 million.

Mr Mueller is investigating allegations that Russian Federation interfered in the 2016 USA presidential election and possible collusion between Moscow and the Trump campaign.

"I am providing both reports, [2017 and 2018], to you because you may find the disclosure relevant to any inquiry you may be pursuing regarding the president's prior report that was signed on June 14, 2017", Apol wrote to Rosenstein.

House seat MORE's longtime personal attorney, Michael Cohen, reportedly offered Qatari government officials access to the president in exchange for at least $1 million.

For instance, it showed that Trump received more than $25 million in income in 2017 from Mar-a-Lago, his private club in Palm Beach, Florida, and more than $15 million in income from his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey.

The footnote about the Cohen payment appears in a report giving the first extended look at Trump's income from his properties since he became president.

The debt figures are given in broad ranges in the report and capped at $50 million, so it's unclear just how much Trump actually owes.

When Trump took office, he refused to fully divest from his global business, another break with presidential tradition.

Vice President Mike Pence has released his annual financial disclosure, reporting a pension plan from the state of IN worth between $500,000 and $1 million and credit card debt between $15,000 and $50,000.
