According to air travel intelligence company OAG, the Hong Kong-Taipei route is the world's 2nd busiest global air link between two cities from March 2017 to the end of February 2018.

Research has shown that more than 30,500 flights between the two cities took place in the year to February. Around 4 million people were transported in those flights, the report mentioned. The world's busiest domestic air route is between Seoul and Jeju, a popular holiday island in South Korea.

A high-speed railway line is being built to link the cities and is expected to be completed in 2026, cutting travel time overland to 90 minutes from around five hours.

In terms of passenger numbers, the flight between Hong Kong and the Taiwanese capital remains the busiest with 6.5 million passengers on the route.

Asia dominated the list of the world's 20 busiest global air routes, with 14 operating to and from destinations in the region, British-based OAG said.

We're quite happy now it's done and dusted. "He will be in the squad this weekend as well". Since then, he's been back training". 'The games were massive when I arrived in November.

The flight between Chicago and Toronto also made OAG's list, coming in at 20th place.

A majority of the most highly trafficked air routes were in Asia, with 14 out of the top 20 being in the region.

The Singapore-Kuala Lumpur route is followed by the air links between Hong Kong and Taipei and between Singapore and Jakarta, which had 28,887 flights and 23,704 flights for the same period, respectively.

Total passenger traffic on the route was more than 4.6 million, compared with about four million for Singapore-KL.

A host of budget airlines such as Air Asia, Scoot, Jetstar and Malindo Airways fly between the two airports and add to the route's popularity. But even the most frantic worldwide routes don't come close to the most popular domestic flights.
