Tavon Austin on trade to Cowboys: 'Lot of weight off my shoulders'

USA TODAY Sports Tavon Austin after making 194 catches for 1,689 yards over five seasons with the Rams was traded to Dallas on Saturday

His role could grow in Dallas, as the Cowboys look to replace former star Dez Bryant. The Los Angeles Rams have traded wide receiver Tavon Austin to the Dallas Cowboys.

Austin was the No. 8 overall pick in the 2013 National Football League draft.

Austin was a playmaking machine as a receiver, rusher and return man, scoring a total of 40 touchdowns in four years at West Virginia. Austin likely would have been a cap-casualty and would not make the 53-man roster for the Rams in the upcoming season.

The Marine Park Authority will also receive an additional $42.7 million for its joint field management program over the next six years.

From adding depth to the offensive line with players Joseph Noteboom and Brian Allen to from filling needs at linebacker with Micah Kiser, Los Angeles has plenty of reasons to be thrilled with their selections from this year's draft.

Needless to say, there's not enough positives or proven track record that shows Austin is capable of flipping a switch and being a quality fantasy player in Dallas. All told, he had a career-low 13 receptions for 47 yards to complement 59 carries for 270 yards and a touchdown. And while Austin does have game changing speed, he's averaging just 8.7 yards per reception for his career, which is another red flag.

Tavon Austin now officially joins that group.
